Tablet for a 9 year old?

572 239 September 30, 2012 at 10:59 AM
I'm not sure where to post this...so I hope I chose the correct forum. I am looking to get my son a tablet for Christmas. The thing is I have no idea at what tablet to even start looking at. I would like it to be below $300.00. He will use it mainly for playing games and watching tv or movies. I would like to be able to download a lot of movies so we can get rid of the old portable dvd player and dvd case when taking long car trips.

Essentially I want it to replace the whole DVD issue as they are a hassle in the car and keep him from always draining my battery on my Evo. We don't need to download books as we have a kindle.

If it could stream netflix that would be great too.

I appreciate any suggestions....I have been looking at the google nexus tablet but am not sure if it's the best tablet for my son as I want to download a lot of movies.

For all of the reasons OP mentioned, I'd presume. laugh out loud

This one is $60 through today. http://mtxone.com/products/matrixone

At that price, my 7 and 9 yr old boys will each have one for Christmas! It'll run apps from the Android App Store and from Google Play.

Thanks for all the help. I'm sure my son would love a paper tablet for Christmas. Like I stated before this is for a Christmas present. I am looking to keep him entertained during long car trips and wanting to save my phone battery and a portable dvd player and all the messy dvds that litter my car during these long trips.

Obviously this was the wrong forum to ask...

Well that explains it...lol. Your old... and obviously have something against technology. Things have changed grandma- tablets can keep bored kids entertained in a car after they get bored with coloring, eating snacks, etc.

Thank you! I don't get why others have to post in a thread when they really have no interest in helping the OP.

Don't give up yet. It is a Sunday afternoon and most of the helpful people probably have better things to do with their lives than hang out here. Eventually they may show up and offer up something of use to you.

I was thinking more of helping the kid. I thought maybe the tablet I suggested could be of more value in his educational future. Dontknow

i am not old i am just wise there are other things kids can do in the car playing games (abc license game, coloring, puzzles, etc.) just to name a few ideas. good luck with that. talk with your kids that would be something different for a change.

I don't see how me posting a post about a tablet has made it so "I don't talk to my kid" and he needs help with his "educational future"

Seriously do you have nothing better to do with your time?

His educational future is fine...he is above grade level in all areas of school.

And we talk plenty... however no child wants to talk to their parents on an entire 3 hour car ride.

Thanks for the other suggestions!
