My husband has been having trouble keeping food down for months now. He has dropped below 130 pound now. His Gastroenterologist scoped both ends last month and ran a bunch of other test with no findings. So today we went in for a ultrasound on his tummy. We have not heard anything from his Doctor yet. I was looking over the technicians shoulder as she wrote her notes. She wrote that he appears to have a occlusion in his SMA.

I googled it and came back with Occluded Superior Mesenteric Artery Has anyone ever heard of this. It sounds like the cure is some sort of surgery to fix it. Tell me I'm wrong. Pray

Don't jump the gun on this one; if it was that serious, as what AP is indicating and what I've researched as well; they would have admitted him directly into the hospital for surgery by now; to repair this. They would not be waiting; based on that Ultrasound, and a Radiologist reading it; and you should have heard back from a doctor by now nod I'm sure if you google "occuluded Superior Messenteric Artery" you too will come up with what we all have seen on google as well; there is actually an Ultrasound of one, with pictures, describing what they saw, and what the outcome was.

And it has nothing to do with your frosting Comfort
I still have not heard from his doc yet. So I'm thinking that it is a small blockage or when the radiologist read the ultrasound he didn't see what the technician thought she had seen. Just like what was going on with you no one can tell my DH what is making him ill.Frown

Go to the hospital or wherever this test was done - and request a copy of the results - you might need your husband with you - unless you filled out the paperwork that you are allowed to obtain copies of his medical reports. That is where you start nod Then start pushing for answers on this, do not be docile.

I'm sure my DH Doc will call on Monday. The technician said it might take a few days for us to hear from him. If not I'll make sure we get a hold of him. nod
Like you said it must not be a emergency or it would have been taken care of right then.

Thanks. It's sad that I could have lost the weight he lost and looked good. But he was underweight to begin with.

The sad thing is that he is so hungry and tries to eat but more comes back up then stays down. Frown I dont like to eat infront of him.

Sorry CC...sending positive thoughts. I think as others have said ..the fact that they are waiting until Monday to give results then it's not super serious. I hope they have solid answers for you then and they can help him on the path to a quick recovery. hug

Usually it is a blood test first to check for the antibodies connected with celiac, and then there is a biopsy of the small intestine.

I know that blood has been taken more then once over the last 4 month. When they scoped him they took scrapings of both ends. What that was for not sure.

My grand father had a similar issue. They eventually found he had diverticulitis/spongy intestines. Tons of testing and not until he started to get a distended stomach did they figure it out. By then his intestine ruptured. Keep watch, make sure if he feels gas pains that you look for symptoms of distended stomach.

I had to google that...

Actual swelling of the stomach vs. just feeling like it's swollen.
