Lounge Doctors. **UPDATE** surgery is complete.

My husband has been having trouble keeping food down for months now. He has dropped below 130 pound now. His Gastroenterologist scoped both ends last month and ran a bunch of other test with no findings. So today we went in for a ultrasound on his tummy. We have not heard anything from his Doctor yet. I was looking over the technicians shoulder as she wrote her notes. She wrote that he appears to have a occlusion in his SMA.

I googled it and came back with Occluded Superior Mesenteric Artery Has anyone ever heard of this. It sounds like the cure is some sort of surgery to fix it. Tell me I'm wrong. Pray

Have you thought about bypassing the test results and waiting on a call back and just go to the ER?
Husband is weak, in pain, unable to eat for x amount of days.
You can also call the Dr on the phone and letting him know his symptoms are getting worse and you are really concerned, Dr may advise you to head to the ER.
In the mean time, ensure or boost. Make them into a milk shake, in blender add some peanut butter, bananas and some ice. A straw makes it go down a little better, not the most tasty of things to drink.
Good luck.

Usually it is a blood test first to check for the antibodies connected with celiac, and then there is a biopsy of the small intestine.

You would only do that after blood test and biopsy. If they found you did have celiac, then it's gluten free for life.

you're right Smilie... I'm talking about the small percentage of folks with negative serologies with mild disease.

I'm not sure what you mean by mild disease. Are you referring to gluten intolerance?

Patients that don't necessarily show classical/clear-cut pathologic changes diagnostic of celiac disease on biopsy.
