The Official Car Talk Thread

I suppose can continue the conversation from the Funniest Pics thread here, along with any other car talk..

Quote from Jabbit :
The SLS is pretty nuts, I have seen a couple on the streets and they sounds almost musclecar-ish. I also saw an Enzo at the car show (it was actually Cars & Coffee in Irvine CA which is pretty well known). I would like an older M3, the last one that had the inline-6. I have never been in one but they seem like they would be a lot of fun. Not really practical in New England though.

We should start an official "Car Chat" thread.
That enzo is awesome. I spotted a 599GTO at F1 as well. There were a few people leaning up against it taking pics. If I was the owner I'd have been pissed.

BMW is bringing back the straight 6 for 2013 (or maybe 14).. They're doing a twin turbo version in the name of fuel economy. There was rumor about there being a third turbo in there too.

That was it for day one. Something like $1.8 million for what was sold. I'm pretty sure the auction was supposed to continue tomorrow but I don't see any further coverage on the History Channel. Tonight's show was recorded earlier this afternoon.

You can see all of the cars sold today and how much they sold for here:

Some of the first pages are other auto items from the dealership.

Looks like the second day of the auction is mostly the junk that was traded in and has been sitting outside for many years. Still a lot of cool stuff and a few "new" cars with almost no miles yet pretty trashed. Today's prices seem to have ranged from $100 to a few thousand dollars.

Good thing this wasn't too close to where I live because this stuff was in my price range and I see a few that I'm sure I would have come home with if I was there.

Here is today's auction list. Still going on I believe so there may be more added as the day goes on.

1977 Chevy Vega with 6 miles. Plastic still on the seats.

I think the selling price was $10,900. Something close to that anyway.

Time for new tires.. Anyone have any recommendations for a solid all-season tire with good performance? I'm driving to Boston from Texas in December and the way Texas roads handle rain means I could use good all-season performance for good grip in dry/wet.

Thoughts?

Watching the Barrett Jackson Auction on National Geographic channel now. Man there are some crazy-cool cars for sale for some insane $$.

Here are some of the highlighted cars in this year's auction:

1950 MERCURY CUSTOM - owned and built by actor Matthew Fox. Over $400,000 has been poured into this custom 1950 Merc that boasts multiple show winnings including World's Most Beautiful Custom.

1949 HUDSON COMMODORE 8 4-DOOR SEDAN - from "Driving Miss Daisy." Yes, the actual "Driving Miss Daisy" Hudson movie car from the 1990 award-winning movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy.

1972 OLDSMOBILE 442 CONVERTIBLE - previously owned by James Gandolfini. Very rare special edition W29 1972 Oldsmobile 442 convertible with 350 Rocket engine.

2008 BUGATTI VEYRON 2-DOOR COUPE - Simon Cowell's pristine 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 which he purchased new at Bugatti Beverly Hills. This Veyron has 1,300 actual miles.

1986 FERRARI TESTAROSSA STRAMAN CONVERTIBLE – driven by Michael Jackson in the Pepsi Commercial called "The Chopper."

1963 CHEVROLET IMPALA CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE - previously owned by Kobe Bryant and created by West Coast Customs. Rebuilt drivetrain, custom hydraulic suspension, trunk-mounted audio system, House of Kolor paint finish and new leather interior. Featured in "Lowrider Magazine."
