Ok im gonna do it...do not try to talk me out of it! ( buying new car)

After many years of hoopdie cars..I'm going to get a new one...that last 400 dollar radiator did me in on my little car...and with a soon to be 2xxlb 6 foot tall son and a BF its time to get a larger nicer car....I've been driving a 87 crx...so I need more room!

Hondas are my first choice...

I narrowed it to the 2012 EXL 2.4 i owned a 01 with leather and dang it I want that again...moonroof I can do without..but I like the alloy wheels and it does get decent gas mileage

Found one at the dealer with 62xx miles..they wanted 25909..also comes with 100000 honda certified warranty.

Kbb trade in is 21818..,no problems with carfax..and it was sold originally by this dealer and stayed pretty much in this area its been at dealer for about a month...

I have financing at 4.73 with 84 months if over 20000 dollars..I am going to look into refinancing in the future at lower rate. I also get 90 day delay on first payment...

I also average 7000 mi a year..I've been renting cars for out of town trips..family is about 5 hr drive...I see them about 3 to 4 times a year...but I'm thinking more now with newer wheels!

I am ready for pros and cons! I am planning on running this to 200000 miles or more!

Oh and where is the car advice thread? I need to rehearse and get ready to deal with dealer...

So you already have financing through your bank? They're probably going to try and push to get it through one of their vendors so they can get paid from it.

Then it may be time to get tough. Make an offer, set the clock, and see if they take it. Playing the time game is half the battle for some salesmen. Or bringing in the "manager"

If you have financing, then they don't need to approve you for any loan.

"But you, the smart buyer, have negotiated all these obstacles and just when you think you're winning in negotiations, you're introduced to a secondary sales rep that you are told is the car dealership manager. Surprise, he's just another sales buddy brought in when closure on the deal appeared to be slipping. Often the sales team will split commission in this scenario. And they both know that additional options are a car dealer's bread-and-butter, though the practice of "back-ending" a deal, or adding additional charges to option lists without the customer's knowledge, is illegal in many states."

Ok back home....(without car)

They kept saying that they needed my monthly income to complete the paperwork..I said "I already completed an application"...so he went back into room to do something..other guy comes out ( guy i test drove with) chit chatted a bit..talked about kids ect...then he stood up and as he was leaving said "oh what was your monthly income again?"
I said "I told the other man that I already gave that info to bank..and why do i need to do it again?"

He leaves..then comes with other guy who has a paper with price and payment info...and chitchated some more and pretty much wanted me to agree to what was on paper....ok i hate to admit it but i kinda squealed..."Noooo, I am not going to pay that!" The guy said "oh you want to pay more?" I said "No!....less! We haven't agreed to a price yet!"
He looks at test drive guy and says "Oh, i didnt know that"

I took the paper...a little to quick i think and wrote my offer ..he looks at it and gives me a strange look..he goes back to room, gets KellyBB printout, ( which was almost 2000 less than sticker ) and starts telling me that he cant sell it losing money...where did i get that number...I kinda freaked and said internet...I did have my print outs with me but chickend out in whipping them out as well....ok so I upped the offer came to 1500 under his print out..and i said..this is my final offer....he shook his head sighed and said cant do it...I said..ok thank you for your time..I have other cars to look at today... That was that. ( now I kinda wish I had one of those 1940s hats to put on so I could say "GOOD DAY , SIR" and walk out...)

Ended up drowning my sorrrow at hundai dealer...but now that I look at the Elantra tricked out, it is giving me hope again! But now more research!

If you're not deadset on model type for Honda Accords, check out the used car sections of the rental car agencies (enterprise, hertz, etc.). They probably have a bunch of 12's left.
This is like going to a house of ill repute to find a wife. You really don't want to stick your key into something that's been driven that hard.

This is for anyone else who is a newbie to buying cars:

When you get pre-approved for an auto loan like I was, they will give you a sheet of paper that goes something like this, "StevenQ has been pre-approved for the purchase of a used car up to $15,000 by Patelco Credit Union". There will be a phone number they can use to verify that you are indeed pre-approved. You don't tell the salesman to go look it up. If the credit union doesn't provide you with such a sheet, keep a phone number handy so they can easily call to verify your pre-approval.

Also, you want to have all your ducks lined up. You should already have a good idea what price you will pay for the vehicle, you should already have an idea of the KBB price, and typical sales price, and draw a line in the sand. Make sure you look at the Carfax to see if the car has been in an accident or totaled.

If they ask you for your SS number you don't have to give it to them. I gave it to them anyways because they wouldn't shut up about it and I wanted to speed the process up. So they found a better rate and I told them that I was still going with Patelco's rate at 3.15% for 60 months. Doing the credit pull doesn't really hurt you so I wasn't too worried about it. In hindsight I should have gone with the rate they provided but it was my first ever car purchase and I didn't know what I was doing.
