I read a book when I was pregnant with my first that solidified my decision to breastfeed no matter what. The guy was a little overboard, he was heavily anti-formula, almost on the verge of conspiracy-theory, but basically the idea was that since formula was introduced and made readily available, it was almost a status thing. If you breastfed your baby, you were poor, couldn't afford to "buy" your baby's food.

Anyway, after reading that book, where he spelled everything out and gave me confidence that no matter what the circumstances, I could and should breastfeed my baby, I have been able to block out whatever other people say, or how they look at me when I'm in public, feeding my baby. Mind you, I'm very discreet, always use a blanket, etc., but I have fed my three children in pretty much every place imaginable. Even my sister's wedding reception. Big Grin Now THAT was interesting, because her brother-in-law thought it was gross to breastfeed, and so didn't want his wife doing it with their kids.

All that to say, I wonder how the health of our country would be if formula hadn't become so prevalent. Breastmilk gives so much protection to the baby for their immune system, etc.

So as not to completely derail conversation, my little one (10 months old) is so congested, she had a rough night sleeping. Frown Which means mommy had a rough night sleeping. ZzZZz I'm gonna go out and vote, hit up a Target and then head home and baby her the rest of the day. Hubby has basketball practice every night this week, so its gonna be a long one. nod

sounds like my favorite pro-bf book called "So that's what those are for" has alot about the status of formula i read sections to my mom (who was born in the 60s) and she agreed, however she still thought it was nasty to BF and my dad asked me why I couldn't afford "real food" for them EEK!

who's guinea piggin the toy coupons? We need answers folks. Think i might take the hasbro for a ride in a couple hrs if noone has reported back Wink

Funny thing, I didn't breastfeed my first 3. I really hated when people made me feel bad about it. I am still bf'ing Madelyn though. I dont want to bust any chops for not breastfeeding because I know how it feels, but I cant for the life of me understand why people get ridiculed FOR breastfeeding.

I had my first at 17 and I honestly thought it was kind of weird. I tried it and it just freaked me out. I guess I grew older and wiser and with each child following I tried it more and more. Madelyn is 18 months and still nursing. Speaking of...did you guys see the video of the 8 year old that still nurses? That is a bit much to me.

I saw it. I think it was a bit too played up. Worldwide the actual age for most kids to wean is 6 years old. If my kids had wanted to nurse longer i would have. My oldest went to 13 mos (when I got preg again) youngest to 14 ms....i miss it alot.

Alot of breastfeeding talk. I guess everyone has their own opinions. Obviously, it's healthiest for baby if you can do it, and it is natures way of providing food and nurturing for our babies. That being said, I think in public, most moms use some sort of blanket or something to cover up with. Not because they are ashamed, but because it can be offensive to some, or even more important these days there are psycho's out there that don't need any prompts to go beserk. And that being said, it could be that the link was removed not because it was inappropriate, but because it's the internet, and SD does have a history of 'crazies'. In the best interest of mom, it might be better that it was removed.

These are just my thoughts though. I really don't know why it was removed. I think we can all agree that breastfeeding is good, and there are still 2 beautiful pics of BF's baby posted for us to enjoy. hug

My heart would have stopped right there on the spot!

Don't feel bad. I lost my toddler once too. My older kids forgot to lock the door so that he couldn't escape, and I didn't double check it either. I was happily teaching a piano lesson when someone knocked on my door.

There stood a man in full biker gear carrying my son. EEK!
He had escaped with the dog and was out in the street. The nice man parked his bike and brought him home...despite the growling overprotective dog following him around wondering what he was doing with "his boy".

Weeping So DH didn't get the job. After 4 rounds of interviews and someone coaching him along the way. He was told that 2 out of the 3 people recommended him and the 3rd person won I guess.

And my son has a bad cough again (the one who had H1N1). He still wasn't 100% well and now this.

I want to go back to bed.

It looks like they just used a coupon template with the disclaimer part on it and merged the coupon title onto it - the mushed print looks like a continuation of the item description that runs into the disclaimer. Poor planning & layout on T's part - this has nothing to do with your printer.

Yes, I too was hired by the most wonderful boss... but when he left it all went downhill. Not just my position, the entire company (not because he left - he left because the company was tanking). Everyone was (and still is) in "hyper-cover-your-ass" mode and certain people were just trying to prove something.... nevertheless, I'm out and couldn't be happier about it. I actually don't start my new job until 11/16. Very excited and trying to get stuff done around here that I so desperately need to do!

As for Hermie, that too relates back to the old job. The people that worked the hardest and didn't backstab were the misfits. That place was a nightmare and has only gotten worse. However, no longer my problem! Big Grin

I saw that commercial last night for the holiday glade.. told hubby maybe I should get me some of that "glade stuff" and see if my house would be magically transformed like thatWink

On a funny note, I did grab a few glades last night, and I have always read here folks complaining about the scent. I usually just shrug and figure I am weird cause I like alot of them...well, I left the glade I bought in the car last night, and when I went back out to get it, I couldn't believe how strong the smell was. It almost made me sick. Lesson learned.. remove glade from car ASAPBig Grin

I hope all sick kiddos are feeling better today. Nothing worse then having your little one ill and you not being able to "make it better"

I have a small amount of time today and so many things to buy.. gotta figure out what is the most important... glade will wait (still have a while to stock up)... need to hit the kroger mega sale atleast once more, publix overage with the GM coupon before Thursday, and now I just read about the free/MM mascara deal at wagswoot And I wasn't planning a wags trip this week, guess plans may change!

Warning: long, historical rant to follow. Skip if not interested. Smilie

All that you all are saying is totally true. Basically, during the Cold War (post-WW II), when companies were first mass marketing infant formula, the approach was to try to convince women that it was 1) lower class to breast feed (ie, you couldn't afford NOT to) and, even worse 2) animalistic to do so. That is, it made you more human NOT to breastfeed. While this is bad enough in this country, what's more reprehensible (IMHO) is that these marketing tactics were spread to the 3rd world, often to places where literacy wasn't universal. Women would use formula w/o being able to necessarily read the instructions and water it down to stretch it out. Frown
