my favors ended up costing me about $10 oop total. we did personalized chocolate bars and i wrapped them myself (designed the wrapper myself also). the only thing i had to buy was the foil to wrap them (bought a box of foil from sally's) - a friend worked for nestle and got me the chocolate for free, and i had DH print the wrappers at his work on his color printer. i thought it was the cutest idea, but i didn't actually hear anything from anyone about them other than my mom laugh out loud so perhaps they weren't as well-received as i had anticipated. it's ok tho - DH loves chocolate so it was quite fitting. we had to change our plans though - we had originally thought we'd just leave them on the tables for the guests, but quickly realized that wouldn't work since our reception was outdoors and it was extremely hot in september so they would have melted very fast. instead we ended up making them the placement cards as well as the favors - i separately printed each wrapper with a name and table #. it was good that we had a small guest list.
thats a cute novel idea. what a great price for favors!

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Produ...ing-F15413

I wanted full length so we chose this one: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Produ...id-Dresses in black.

dessy brand [dessy.com] has quite a few really pretty dresses if you want shorter. but you have to get them from a retailer.
have you checked amazon? i see a few decent ones on there for cheap http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr...2343347011
There may be hope yet for that tea length dress! For David's Bridal sizes, three of us are size 2, and one is a size 8. She's not chubby, but just doesn't have a figure.

Bridezilla already looked at the Amazon dresses. She made some suggestions but BMzilla shot it all down.

For the Dessy Dresses, do you know the approximate price point? There are some cute dresses for sure nod

yeah, i know people don't care much for favors but i really wanted to make something. i just knew i didn't want to spend $500 on favors that people may just throw away.

in retrospect the only thing i regret was paying for flowers. i wish i had figured out a way to make my centerpieces. my DH was adamant that i not put so much stress on myself the week before though (he ended up making me do the slide show anyway, which was very stressful) so we paid to have centerpieces done. though i suppose there were some things i don't think i could have decorated myself, like the bridge.
I wish I can recall what your centerpieces looked like. I'm sure it was amazing. Yeah, I doubt you wanted to be decorating the bridge on your big day!

This actually gave me lots of perspective for my future favors. I just don't want to spend much on it. And I don't really want to make anything. Lots to think about for me in the future! I'm taking all the notes down!!

for dessy they are $$$ but could be had if you found them on sale for under $100. HAve you all been sized at DB? because i wear a 6/8 in every dress on the planet, but my wedding dress from them was a 14OMG the sales lady told me that they were sized really small when we walked in, i wasnt expecting that small. If you all could find a pretty embellished sash you might be able to make it look cute. Also if the bride registers there, you should get 10-20 off your purchase for the bridal party.

is there a reason she wants that one? I was picky with mine because i had a ballgown dress and didnt want things to look odd with a short BM dress. I also did not want them in heels since i and DH are short, and i was wearing flats as not to be taller in the pics then DHSmilie

Ohhh...hm...I should have her look into Dessy.

We tried on different dress sizes at DB. They don't service the BMs, just told us to look ourselves. I am usually a 4/6 so I was surprised for a 2, but I don't know, at Express, I'm a 2 Dontknow

I don't know about DB sizes. Bridezilla got her dress there and she usually isn't a 00, even a size 0 dress fell off her. She's even got to get the 0 or 00 dress she got tailored and taken in.

Good to know about the discounts! I really liked the couple dresses we tried on there. I suspect that BMzilla had problems with it, or was upset that I looked better in it than she did and told Bridezilla. I just wanted to get the dresses that day too. Ugh! Mad

well be careful on the timing, the dresses we ordered took 12 weeks to come in, and they woulnt schedule alterations until the dresses were in the store. WE cut it really really close (as in they picked up their final fitted dresses thurs for the sat wedding)

I just got quite a few Express orders. One was supposed to be one of the cheap tops, but I received a black peplum dress in size 12 instead. I think it was this style. http://www.express.com/ponte-knit...crumb=true I'd rather have a $5 top than an $80 dress I can't wear. That's another exchange to deal with. Annoyed I was trying to get away from returns/exchanges there.

Big hair. I always said leggings, but I guess I'm getting used to them again. It's not like we really have a choice, if we want a variety of clothing. They're still not a favorite. I still don't like the long top, & high socks over leggings look. Rompers & jumpsuits were another look that could have disappeared forever as far as I'm concerned. Let's not forget skinny ties & button down tops on women. Obviously, people like these styles or they wouldn't keep returning. (Well, except for the big hair.) I'm just not a fan.

By the way, your poor GM. That sounds painful, but I guess they got used to it. I can't imagine preferring small feet. I would have liked to stretch my feet & height, if I could have. laugh out loud It must be easier to find small shoes for women in Asia.

I'm not much of a DIY person, but magnet idea is cool! I thought about ropping a string through it like GH said, but I'll have to see. I might go the way of food then. Personalized M&Ms or something cute. Definitely no candy table for me. I don't support all that candy and sweets.

Or hiring cake pops to be made NOT by BMs! :l ol:
.
I think the M&Ms can get expensive, but they're cute. I love the cake pops idea. They'd look really nice displayed on a sucker tree. There may be cake pop trees now, but I've never looked for one.

Your wedding looked beautiful. I was drooling looking at your pics. You did an amazing job on the displays.

I might be the minority here, but I love low rise jeans! They fit me well. I can't stand high waist jeans. Seems like I can't breathe (but I love wearing corsets :craz ySmilie. However, with the size figure chart thing that nerdi sent along some time ago, I have an hourglass shape and my waist is 10 inches smaller than my shoulders and hips. So I do have a defined waist. It's only harder to tell unless I'm in a dress that's kind of bandage like or clings in all the right areas to see my waist. And it's small. Sometimes it surprises me too. I still want to lose 3 more inches off my waist though! Ugh :e ek: I'm comfortable in my jeans and too lazy to want to show off my waist unless I'm in a dress. :lo l:

I really think that what people eat nowadays also play a role as much as genetics do. I think my mom used to have a small waist too. She was in a lot of dresses in her pictures, but with lots of prints, so it's hard to tell. But anyway, in a sense, I'm glad that the "supersize me" culture is drawing to a close, hopefully for good. And that people will have the sense to move away towards that and to something healthier.
It depends on what you get used to. I think higher waist pants are much more comfortable. It seems like I have to constantly tug at low cut pants to keep them up. To me, waist cut pants are perfect. It's a generational thing, & I'm old here. laugh out loud I'm sure most of you agree on the topic.

I may be wrong & a lot of people your age may have a defined waist. I just don't seem to know any of them.

Of course, there are negatives to having a defined waist. It makes my stomach look even bigger. Facepalm

i love the ornament idea, but that really depends on how many ppl on your guest list has christmas trees, otherwise it also ends up being a trinket that will likely be hung somewhere for awhile and then tossed. i think people tend to get trees when they get older and have kids.
That's a cute idea. I would have appreciated the effort, if I was one of your guests.

You don't have a Christmas tree?!? What are you thinking? Big Grin I couldn't wait to put up my tree, when I moved out on my own. The only thing that changed, when I had my DS, is I started using an artificial tree. I was afraid a live tree would start a fire. Plus, when he was very young, I only put things he could safely eat on the bottom limbs. That was safer than ornaments. laugh out loud

On 2nd thought, I remember listening to the story of the Monkey King in China at Epcot one Christmas. If I remember correctly, most Asians don't even celebrate Christmas. Do those of Asian descent living in America usually celebrate? If they don't, ornaments definitely wouldn't be a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Doh

i think it depends on the designer as well. the DB brand is sized a bit smaller than others. when i was trying on wedding dresses i would fit into the DB brand 4 but it was made for ppl with different proportions than me (otherwise saying it looked horrible and was snug in the wrong places). 6 would have had to be taken in but would have fit right in some places.

the vera wang line on the other hand i was almost a perfect 4 when i was trying them on. i also fit into the 2 in some styles and would be more like a 2 now i think (i've lost a little weight since i was trying dresses). those dresses fit my proportions MUCH better.

as for BM dresses, i didn't try any on so i don't know. as long as you try them and they fit... but for good measure it's probably best to try on a few different styles, as there could be discrepancy in their sizing.

exchange the express dress for one in your size. peplum style will look amazing on you with your defined waist. iirc alvs LOVES the dress.

unless you go to department stores or specialty (read: expensive) stores, the largest shoe size you can find is about 7.5. most of the shoes you can find at night markets/for cheap go up to about 24 or 39 (in japanese or european sizes). it is MUCH easier to find smaller things in general in asia - rings are another example (i saw cute cheap rings at the market in sizes 2-4... you rarely see anything smaller than 6 here). asians are small in general. we tend to have smaller bone structure, etc.

my parents are very ethnic and didn't become christian until later on in life. christmas was never huge with them. i remember begging for a tree when i was growing up. nowadays, i'm usually travelling around xmas so i just don't bother. maybe one of these days...

We actually don't celebrate Christmas. I don't really care for Christmas Hide Seems like younger generation might? Not sure because my friends don't care about Christmas. I think it's just the idea of gifting nod I wouldn't have gone with the Xmas tradition or trees if not for DBF. He loves it. I could care less. I have a feeling we'll be dishing out a lot of money on Christmas related stuff in the future Facepalm Not to worry though - I liked your idea!!

I just think generally young people these days tend to be bulbous because they don't care. Maybe the looser fitting clothes is also a reason. They may not know what they're missing because their clothes don't carry any shape.

There's cake pop anything! I was thinking just including two on the table per person, no tree. Easier for me! nod We shall have to see. What a pain! laugh out loud

I think any dresses with a cinched waist will draw attention to your small tiny waist and away from your stomach nod

Oh, my waist isn't tiny. My belly is just really fat compared to the rest of my body. Embarrassment

It's so interesting to read about different cultures. We've always been all about Christmas. Gifts are a big part of it, but the meaning is more important to many of us. Kids tend to focus more on the gifts. I love to get them, but am fine with not receiving anything, if someone doesn't have money to spend. I always spend a lot more than what we get, which stinks for DH. Teehee To me, it's more fun to buy than receive. DH understands everyone can't afford to spend the same, so he's really good about it. Well, except for my sister who has much more money than we do & spends the least in the older generation. He doesn't understand that at all & neither do I. Alas, that's another story for a different time. Rolleyes2

I should have know there would be cake pop trees. I'm so behind the times. That's what happens when you never get out of the house. Stick Out Tongue

laugh out loud Someone should write a song about Taylor titled "Already a cougar at 22" Stick Out Tongue

BTW, I really enjoy your posts! They're just so witty and funny. I don't know people who use phrases like "cray cray", "extricates her cabeza from her poop chute", and "Dexter kill zone for little varmits!" Roll

I met DH on forum site like this 5+ years ago. It was a technical forum and we used to discuss the .Net technology questions on there when it was really new with the dating or meeting him the last thing on my mind. But later we both just clicked once we started emailing etc....Now when I think I feel it was much better than actually trying to find someone on dating site and worry about end up meeting some creepy people. I would just say keep your options open. You never know, I believe in Karma and I always think nice people eventually finds nice people to be around them and to be with them forever :hug :

:laugh : So true.
One such guy broke Adele's heart and eventually made her a millionaire. I bet he is kicking his own ass now :lol :
Cute story on how you met your DH! Girly

heart Adele. It's great to see these artists turn their personal heartbreaks into millions of dollars. nod

Really? Is food/candy really what people usually take? Hm....might have to rethink my future favors. I know when I went to a wedding in July, macaroons were the favors and I know a couple of people commented about how sweets suck as favors and sticks to teeth. These would be the same people invited to my future wedding. I was think of using stuff from the sea that represents CA and me. Like sand dollars or something. Easy on my end, bonding time with DBF to go hunt for and it matches with beach theme! Plus some of these people are not local, so it may be useless, but cool!
Love the sand dollars idea! That's so cute and thoughtful! Smilie

well be careful on the timing, the dresses we ordered took 12 weeks to come in, and they woulnt schedule alterations until the dresses were in the store. WE cut it really really close (as in they picked up their final fitted dresses thurs for the sat wedding)
She sent me what she meant by the brownies in a mug [imgur.com]. From reddit no less! The doings her of DBF!! Ugh! Well, I guess it will taste as ugly as looks....

I agree with your entire post! I love reading porda's responses as well! It ALWAYS makes me laugh!

I heart Adele too! Hers is just so much more relatable and personal than Taylor Swift's songs. I feel like sometimes my heart breaks all over again listening to her songs.

Thanks about the sand dollars idea, but it looks like it needs to be retweeked!
