No chemical smell in mine! I'll have to say that the straps are really study! They are the same kinda straps that the trio bags were, except the trio ones were coated in this rubber non-slip material and the shoulder strap was cotton canvas. Don't need to worry about it breaking! shake head

really? it smells like how a lot of new luggage smells, but it's chock full of chemicals.

perhaps i'm more sensitive to these things.

It must be because I didn't really sniff it and put it away in the plastic bag after I took it out to play with it.

i think it goes away after awhile. possibly. else do like azn said - airing it out in the sun will help. but i just took it out of the bag and hope that it helps. if i had a back yard i'd hang it out in the back yard.
