Good timing on the bump. We're supposed to get a small amount of snow, mixed with ice and sleet tomorrow. Whee

I sometimes miss my Mt. Hood view on nice days from our house in Tigard. But not enough that I think I'll ever live in the PNW again.
It's not for everyone but it works for us. When I'm feeling a bit glum due to too many days in a row of rain during the worst part of winter, I'll go out for a drive and the scenery (even in the rain) reminds me why we put up with the winters. The rain during most of the year though doesn't bother me, probably a side effect of growing up in an area that never had enough rain. Although I do miss certain things about Texas I don't have any regrets.

We got that too...but had to Google - hadn't never heard "graupel." before. Just called it sleet, but apparently there is a difference.

So last night they delayed schools by two-three hours this morning on the threat of freezing rain and ice on the roads. What did we get?

Not a damn thing. It was nice to sleep in this morning, but I didn't want to have to take a couple hours of vacation time to do it. Annoyed

Never heard the term before either, but we've also gotten that from time to time.

Well, I cheated on graupel. It is a term we use in German, where we do not pun, but only use extreme precision to describe winter weather (no wintry mix in the forecast on German TV ever!) and the same term happens to apply in English.

I refer to the German years Wink The USA has not done much for me in terms of additional maturity Embarrassment

I still remember bringing itching powder to a church camp in Germany and the church ladies for some reason were not amused. I thought it was hilarious. Maybe a whoopie cushion would have gone over better Wink

Geeze, but Wikipedia [wikipedia.org] doesn't really even give sleet a page, while graupel gets one. Sadwalk
