Crazy Bunny keep warm Cold out where you are hug
I just woke up and the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the thermometer on the side of the garage shows about 16 degrees in the sun. I was thinking about going outside and tinkering with a snowmobile for a while. Then I looked on the weather channel and it tells me it is only 6 degrees with a north wind at 18mph. So I looked outside again and see that the thermometer is in the sun and the trees are swaying around pretty good. I'm having second thoughts about the outside thing. laugh out loud

EEK!

Do you have to do anything special to your car to ensure it will start and run alright in those temps?
Just keep it maintained and most importantly keep the gas tank over half full to avoid condensation and frozen gas lines. Obviously the anti-freeze has to be kept to proper amounts. And you don't get by with a cheap battery or one that is getting old and weak. At the first hint of the engine not spinning as fast as it should when starting I just replace the battery and don't take any chances.

I also start the engine and let it warm up for a while before taking off, and when it is this cold I take off slow and let the transmission warm up and shift slowly up through the gears. You can feel the extra drag from the cold fluids and bearing grease until things get rolling and warmed up.

Parking in the garage would be a big plus as well because even though it isn't heated it is still usually 10-20 degrees warmer inside. Unfortunately the hoarder who lives here finally let other things take over the final parking spot in the garage this year so I have to park outside.

I do have a block heater on my Escape so I take that to work instead of my truck when it is really cold so I can plug it in while I am at work. I'm not sure the heater even does much but it gets me a closer parking space if I plug it in and you can't park where the outlets are unless you plug in. laugh out loud

The last time I tried that the polar bear threw me across the yard towards my car and went back in his den. Sadwalk

This is getting old. At least I'm off for the weekend now.

... ANOTHER BITTERLY COLD NIGHT TONIGHT...

THE COMBINATION OF TEMPERATURES FALLING TO AS LOW AS 15 TO 30 BELOW ZERO OVERNIGHT AND LIGHT WINDS AROUND 5 MPH WILL CAUSE APPARENT TEMPERATURES OVER INTERIOR AREAS OF WEST AND CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN TO FALL TO AS LOW AS 25 TO 40 BELOW ZERO.

IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUT TONIGHT... BE SURE TO DRESS WARMLY. WITH APPARENT TEMPERATURES THIS LOW... YOU COULD SUFFER FROSTBITE ON EXPOSED SKIN IN AS LITTLE AS 30 MINUTES.

About 1 hour north of me has gotten over 18" so far and that's all ocean effect snow. Not including what falls tonight. Sweet snowstorm for some and the cold is coming.

And this, boys and girls, is why I live near Seattle. Less rain than Boston and a whole lot less snow. Unless you want snow, then you just drive 20 minutes to go skiing, Snoqualmie Pass gets about 400" (on average) of snowfall per winter. Not enough snow? Mount Baker averages around 640" of snow per year.

I got around 3 inches of snow on top of some ice. Back alley behind my house is a thick sheet of ice at this point, and I plan on staying home at least before noon.

My faux wheel drive usually manages just fine on those rare occasions when we get snow at the house. While DH's car can't cope with it. On those even rarer occasions when the snow is too deep for faux wheel drive, DH breaks out the snow chains.

Yeah, I have a spare room available, for a price. You don't mind wearing a french maids outfit while you clean my house, do you?
