I'm listening to my police scanner.....this is insane

Reddit has a thread of people following it, if you want to google it.

There have been reports of explosives and grenades. Also, a stolen police vehicle. I'm just relaying what others have reported....so who knows.

I don't understand why anyone would even think of not letting them in. They're looking for a terrorist, and someone is willing to stand there and say "You can't enter my house on principle"?

People need to quit thinking about what they can get away with and just do the right thing. If someone blocks them just because they think they can, they should spend some time and jail with all the other idiots.
Because we have a right to privacy, just because you're willing to give up that right during a time like this, doesn't mean everyone is.

If people give up that right, then the government could easily say anytime they want that it's a national emergency and they have the right to search your house. Warrents are there to protect citizens rights.

There has to be a good reason to search your place and that's a judge's job to decide if there is enough evidence for that individual's rights to be waved.

We are still and always will be (hopefully) innocent until proven guilty!

It's true...saw on my FB a Gchat conversation between a friend and one of the surgical residents at Beth Israel. They cracked his chest open but he was dead on arrival.

If they were coming by my house, I'd be offering them bottled water, bags of chips, etc. I know they probably can't or won't accept, but It would be the only way to really show my appreciation for what they're doing. I can only imagine how hard this has to be for them.

FWIW, I've been listening to the police scanner off and on and I did hear that they were provided with food earlier. They said something about a sandwich truck.

You honestly don't see a difference? They aren't showing up on people's doorsteps demanding to search for no reason. They're searching door to door in order to catch a fugitive that has killed and continues to do so. People that can't differentiate between the two situations and let common sense prevail deserve to be the next notch on the criminal's belt.

If you have nothing to hide, gtfo of the way and let them do their jobs. Stand on your soapbox some other time.

I'd let them in to search...what if the a-hole found a way to sneak in? I'd be like "hell yeah please do and if you find him let me kick him a couple of times on the way out".

They're risking their lives to protect YOU from someone who could shoot or blow up your family and friends and you're worried about your privacy? People need to really shut up about their "rights". What rights do you have once you're dead in the ground?

Facepalm

There's a terrorist on the loose = damn good reason to search.

Also its "warrants" and "waived".

If people are willing to give up their 4th amendment right, then go for it ...but I don't think anyone should be penalized for saying "No" to an officer asking to search their place without a warrent.

But meh...everyone seems to be ok with them slowly taking away our constitutional rights for "the protection of everyone" ...so whatever

Iagree Deep inside, I'd be against it, but heck, I want to be safe and alive too! That's why I'd let them in.

Seems like a perspective issue. It sounds like you would look at it like them doing something "to you" and some of us seeing it as them doing something "for us".

Probably headed to the Podium with this soon enough, but...

I've been thinking long and hard about what I'd do if I lived in Watertown and the cops wanted into my place. I'm glad I'm not in that situation because I honestly don't know. But don't you DARE farking tell me I deserve to die because I believe something different from you.

Just because you can't see a reason for something doesn't mean there isn't one. That attitude of "if you've done nothing wrong you have no reason to fear" is DANGEROUS and SCARY to me. And I happen to believe that some rights and freedoms - like the ones in our Constitution - are inalienable and persistent under any and all conditions. It kind of says that, someplace, I think...

So, this is a little more serious than me standing on a soapbox on a principle. And I'd ask you to give it a bit more thought & consideration before you go deciding who's next to get blown up just because you don't agree with him.

Thanks for the spelling corrections (seriously, I'm a horrible speller and I don't have spell check on my work computer)...

I'm not saying I wouldn't allow it, but I don't think anyone should be jailed for denying them access. We have the right to put our privacy before our safety if we wish. If I know that no one is in my house and no one has been in my house, why should I allow more people to come into my house? I could be risking my safety if someone were impersonating a cop and got into my house.
