Heading off to College, What do I need?

4,324 1,198 May 7, 2013 at 12:40 PM in Chat
Alright, so this upcoming fall, I will be heading off to college and I have a basic idea of what to take.... I assume some of the people here attended college Smilie and I would like some input on what else I would need.... Here is a basic list of what I plan on taking:

-Desktop
-Laptop
-iPad
-Printer
-10 pairs of shorts/t-shirts
-2 pairs of fancy clothes
-mini fridge
-microwave
-Chair (the one provided by the college looks like a POS)
-futon (maybe)
-pencils/pens/markers/etc....
-Quarters
-Sandals/Flip Folps
-Lamp
-Towels
-Powerbag backpack
-Headphones
-Hot Plate (not sure what for....)
-hangers

I figure if I can have a comprehensive list, I can start buying them as I find deals on them. Iam not really picky on most of the stuff. The ones I care about, I already have (desktop and laptop). The rest is basic.

How big of a TV is too big for a TV for a dorm?
Whatever size you can fit on the wall or not worry about some ahole stealing. If you can clear a wall...mount it. Or, low desk. The roomie enjoyed/valued my 42 inch. Blu ray/dvd player.
ITEMS
Stocked up on twin sheets (colors) and three, reversible comforters. (Bed, bath and beyong or ?) Flip and a new color. Wash/deo/razers/paste. Cards, combo box of board games, nerf football or basketball. Dartboard or racket or whatever sport you play.
Headphones. Go with a supply of bleach and mr clean. you need to wipe down every surface in your room and the bath. I had lazy/semi dirty roomies but disinfectant and flops kept my fears away. Buy toilet paper(staple deals). Extension cords and black tape and masking tape. The thing is, the late night munchies and drinks are needed, so buy, a plastic storage tray for under a bed or storage box that the microwave can sit on..whatever. Smaller clear sizes for keeping stuff organized or can goods in, paper plates, plastic cups, plastic spoons) only if you have no kitchen access. Some kool ass posters for side or the room. You should have a least on theatrical poster of something up(Amazon). My interest were crazy concerning posters: bruce Lee, alvin ailey dancer, and van gogh's sunflowers.

Locks! Locks!

Cheap tv mounts are always at radio shack. And you can lock your tv or desktop down for protection with wire type lockdowns. I think caution is key.

You need to decide are you sharing a space and items with your roomie or a single room? No need for two fridges. Single room is sexy and tech.

Two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.
Sounds like you never grew up...

Target has a bunch of their storage and decor items on clearance right now. I saw a couple of college students shopping for their dorm room and discussing what to buy, made me think of your thread.

Hmm... Really? I should swing by Target and check it out. I need some clear storage bins, ones you can slide under a bed and a small shelf of clear drawers like so:

I wasn't paying that much attention but am pretty sure they had that three drawer thing on sale, wasn't clear, they were tinted different colors but you could still see inside them. This stuff isn't with the year round storage stuff that Target stocks. It's over in the decorative items area that they change out with the seasons. In the Target here, it's on the side of home goods that are near the groceries.

I actually don't know my roommate since I decided to go random for the first year. But I can fit a 46" TV... I think that it overkill but instead of taking my pair of 24" monitors, I could take a 42" TV.

Sounds like you're excellent at making snap judgements about someone that you know nothing about Thumbup
Also sounds like you don't know who Hunter S Thompson is.
