Surprise shaw floor cleaner delivered today, also won 2x $10 livenation cash in the last couple days and got my $25 summer fun bucks in the mail today. Going on almost a year and i've yet to get a taxable win. I've had my fair share of decent wins though so I cant complain, still hoping some day soon i'll finally get a BIG win.

Technically only those for which you receive a 1099 are taxable. That generally starts at the $600 for US residents. But don't take my tax advice - I am a CPA but I don't do taxes for a living!

As a non-CPA that is particularly poor advice. The $600 limit is a legal obligation for the sponsor to fill out paperwork. NOT a limit on legal obligation to pay taxes. I was told a good rule of thumb on contest items is ask yourself the following question, 'would they give this away at a job fair or expo as a free item? Items that are promotional advertising items are usually ok to leave off--items like keychains, frisbees, pens, cheap t-shirts, small coupons. Gift Cards, Credit Cards, Cash and non-promotional items not so much. You should be detail oriented an itemize your bigger wins to avoid an audit.

It may be "poor" advice, but it works for me. Not saying you have to take it! If the sponsor hasn't filed a 1099 disclosing to the IRS your receipt of the prize, how could the IRS possibly learn of it in an audit? I think the IRS has bigger fish to fry than us little sweepers. But that's just my opinion Smilie
