Stupid insurance not covering thyroid issues for me anymore cost me $160 today, plus $60 for the bloodwork. Thank goodness the doc is passing on his discount on the bloodwork, otherwise it would be about $600. EEK!

The ultrasound I'll have to have in September will be $500. Lovely.

But he did say I wasn't nuts for feeling like I've been run over by a truck since I ran out of one of my meds. Yawn I'm so tired. He doesn't understand why that happens, but he hears it a lot.

He gave me a 1 week supply of sample meds, knowing my insurance doesn't cover them anymore. Annoyed The receptionists ran to the back when he was in a room and gave me almost a year's worth. Whee
Why isn't insurance covering it anymore? hug Free samples are great! woot

We went from a group plan to private pay through ehealthinsurance. It's BCBS, but they included a rider excluding anything thyroid-related. Nice, eh? Annoyed I could have left that off the application, but didn't. I could have ignored my health and well-being, but I didn't. And for that, I pay out the nose. Mad

Foofa!!! Whee Bring it on, woman!

Because it was a pre-existing condition? Or because it's thyroid related? I didn't think BCBS could do that if they cover both plans.

It's neither - they can exclude whatever they want since it's not a group plan. We pay our own way for it. HIPPA covers group-to-group changes in coverage. There's not the same protection if you go private. For us, the cost savings in monthly premiums alone will cover the cost of the thyroid stuff without an issue. We were paying over $1000/month for our family coverage w/ maternity. When we dropped it and went private that cost was cut substantially.

We figured the worst thing that could happen is I'd have to have it removed and go on meds for the rest of my life. I'm already on meds, so that wouldn't be a big change. laugh out loud We could find a way to cover the surgery. I don't think it'll ever come to that, though.

Exactly. One of the meds I'm on is less than $10 for a 3 month supply. The other isn't generic, so I get it in sample-form. I walked out w/ 6 months of meds today! Whee

I had that done in '88. You'd still have to go for yearly blood work to check levels. Hug2

And the hits keep on coming! Rock laugh out loud At least I wouldn't need the ultrasounds anymore! Luckily we're going to 18 months between u/s this time, and then after the next good one (no new issues) we'll go to 24 months.

I'm wiped - off to bed.

Autumn... if you check in, DH wants to know how the dog's ear is doing. hug
