Q's CVS Lounge

6,510 5,400 October 6, 2015 at 03:21 PM in Cool (4) CVS
I changed the name of the thread because I think that Q's CVS Lounge gives a better representation of what the thread is about. This isn't a deals thread although I will sometimes be posting deals. I'll probably talk more about Transylvania and the stock market than I will about the drugstores but the main thing is that is that I want this to be a cool place to hang out.

I guess he was a good player, but must have lost his touch, since he was dropped from the team. I forget if he's even playing ball now....
I highly doubt it if he's doing drugs and hanging out at brothels. He was a very good player but I lost interest in him when he became a Kardashian. The only Kardashian show I ever saw was the one where Khloe shaves herself because Lamar is coming home and one of the sisters helps her and Khloe ends up getting a rash and is all embarrassed. It was the dumbest show I've ever seen. Oh wait, I take it back. It was a double play and they showed another one where one of the sisters takes her baby to the zoo but gets sick when she sees the monkeys and has to rush home.

Lousy shopping day. I did my worst Febreze deal so far and couldn't find anything at CVS. I spent a couple of hours in the garage organizing for this week's sale. Way too hot, though. Today was cooler than yesterday but it was still in the mid 90's. I can't figure out if Blackhawk beat or missed earnings. Johnson and Johnson beat earnings but the stock is down. GoPro is in the 27's. That's about it for the day. Maybe take a nap and then watch the debate (which will probably put me to sleep again).
I think HAWK beat, but it was down after the market close. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm ready for some cooler weather.

It was down pretty big in after market 6 or 7%. JP Morgan and Intel missed, too. San Disk was up 13% on buy out rumors. Glad I sat HAWK out. There's another company that will be offering GC's this Christmas for stocks like Apple. I think there's some real potential there depending on how it works.

Wal-Mart stock is down almost 9% today on a weak outlook. Target stock went along for the ride and is down 4 1/2%. The Dow is down around 100 points but I'm surprised that it's not down much more.

walmart is over. they've pretty much reached total market saturation. same w/ target. target had to pull out of canada. let's see if the new CEO can breath new interest into target first. his changes are still in the planning stages or very beginning of being implemented, but don't know if his direction is the right way to go. he could mess it up like jcp. i think target could realize huge $ if they just focused on fixing their operations. they hemorrhage money like crazy.

i'm not seeing anything really exciting in national retail that includes b&m stores.

The CFO is the guy to worry about. He came after the new CEO. The CFO wants Target to follow the WM business model or at least that's what the article said. Target has so much potential but it's all wasted on poor execution. Why have ads when the store is never on the same page? Why have company policies that can differ on the whim of a store manager? The reason you shop at a big chain is for uniformity. I want the same shopping experience at every Target I go to. Actually, I get that now but they're all bad. I had planned on going to Target today but because of the nonsense I got yesterday I decided to skip it. It's ridiculous when the shopping experience is so bad that you just don't want to go there.

I gave up on WM after my experience with a PM a couple of months ago. If they have their usual Axe gift set clearance after BF I'll do that and maybe go in again for Christmas clearance but that will be it.

Everybody says that Ulta is happening and to buy the stock. I've never been in one. I drove by one the other day (it was in the same shopping center as Target) and I didn't
see a customer in the store.

Amazon has ruined retail. Bookstores were thriving 10 years ago. Now, Borders is gone and B&N is barely hanging on. Used bookstores are a thing of the past. If you want to sell your stuff online, amazon takes all of the profit and you take all of the risk.

Imo, the ceo is the guy to watch. He wants to get rid of the dollar spot and put in seasonal furnishing displays in its place. He wants to have baby furnishing specialists and cw specialists to help customers w/ the smartphone app. Theyve already ripped out a couple aisles and put in a furnishing display in many stores.

Lets see if he can attract more customers in for higher ticket items. Getting customers into the store is the hardest part. Then what differentiates you from the next retailer is always customer service. So let's see if he can deliver.

We might be talking about the same guy. I read the Dollar Spot thing in the article about the CFO. As I understand it the CEO got fired or left over Canada and the CFO came in right before their last earnings report. There was an article about the changes he might bring and it said something about the elimination of the Dollar Spot.

Netflix missed earnings and is down 6 1/2% in after hours. I'm very surprised that the market didn't take a massive drop today.

Interesting reading, thanks both of you.

With Buy, Buy Baby and Babies are Us, who needs another Baby furnishings store, unless the furniture is real cheap junk?

i don't know how toyrus/babiesrus stays in business. they are so expensive. maybe for those people having their first kid who don't know any better and just want everything all in one place.

but, no matter what, target, walmart and kmart are discount stores and serve a different strata of society who don't mind being known to shop at discount stores with a more limited selection and a more disposable quality to their merchandise. let's face it, people who shop regularly at walmart, not the people who go anywhere for a deal, are perceived to be a different type of consumer than the ones who get their groceries elsewhere, even target.

buy buy baby and babies r us can appeal to a different strata, slightly more affluent or want to be perceived to be more affluent.
