Q's CVS Lounge

I changed the name of the thread because I think that Q's CVS Lounge gives a better representation of what the thread is about. This isn't a deals thread although I will sometimes be posting deals. I'll probably talk more about Transylvania and the stock market than I will about the drugstores but the main thing is that is that I want this to be a cool place to hang out.

The Haggen site doesn't even list CA locations anymore. I thought I would be able to see which locations are still open, but they don't show any.
I didn't make it out today, it rained. Lots of thunder and lightning for the last several hours, I hope it stops by tomorrow because I need to go to Sprouts to get the gift cards. I might check out a Fresh & Easy tomorrow, but I don't think I'll make it to Haggen until Thursday.
What's the Sprouts deal on GC's? I got caught in a huge rainstorm on the freeway yesterday. It was fine when I got on but 10 minutes later it was raining like crazy and there was almost no visibilty. Not fun...

I just did a google search for "list of Haagen stores in California" and the first listing was a pdf of the stores opening in California. I don't think the list is complete because I know of at least 2 stores that aren't on it. It's a gamble because you don't know what the discount will be until you get there.

I found the rest of my Kotex q's so I'm pretty happy about that. Bogo's don't really help you which is a bummer on Pantene. There are still the $2 styler q's though. Some stores have a limit of how many like q's you can use per transaction (but it's fine to do multiple transactions). Other stores don't care. They constantly condense and move stuff around. Not all of the health & beauty stuff is in health & beauty. Make very sure that the shelf price is the price it rings up for at the register (before discount). One store last time was playing games with the pricing.

If I see a Fresh & Easy in my travels today I'll stop in but I'm not looking for any. I'm also doing my usual CVS and RA runs. The trick is to not get burned out at Haagen and still be able to do my regular shopping. I messed up at RA yesterday because I forgot that I was using a non-gold card. I wasted about $10 but what can I do? When I do most of my shopping at CVS, it's easy to forget that there are 3 levels of pricing at RA and I was still thinking about my Haagen trip. I had planned on going to 3 or 4 more stores but I called it a day at that point and spent an hour organizing the stuff in the garage. A neighbor came over and I made a nice sale so it all worked out.

Sprouts...
The GC is a good deal. I checked cardcash and they only have a 3% discount. Unfortunately, my Sprouts purchases are usually small and it would take me forever to use up a $100 GC. I spend maybe $5 per week (usually muffins). If I had a closer store I'd go much more often and spend a lot more.

Sprouts $100 GC for $89.99, today only, limit 10.
Sorry I didn't answer sooner, I slept late this morning. It must have been all the rain. It's not raining now so I need to get out and run some errands before it starts again.

I stopped at Sprouts and picked up the GCs. Went to F&E , 20-40% off but the store was really cleared out. I'm not going to bother to stop again because there was nothing left that I would want, even if it was 90% off. Ran into Grocery Outlet to pick up some milk and bought 4 bags of groceries. I love that store. Even with sprouts having frozen pizzas 50% off today they were still cheaper at GO.
It was so cold today I felt like I should be Christmas shopping.

Fresh & Easy was my last stop today. I couldn't find anything to buy so I walked around for 10 minutes and finally grabbed some cookies. They said the last day was the 13th. Haagen was on fire today. They lowered prices and I cleaned up at the first 4 stores that I went to. Probably made around $500. Then things slowed down and I didn't do all of that well. The stores are on different markdown schedules so it makes a drive risky. Calling them up is probably not a good idea. They were muttering at one store about "professional shoppers" but I guess I didn't fit the bill with my 2 carts of stuff... laugh out loud I went to a couple of CVS's but it seemed like a waste of time with all of the good deals I was getting at Haagen. Never made it to Sprouts. I'm jumping in the jacuzzi with a Dracola... Cool

so I guess they do it on the same day now
that helps, since they don't advertise it anywhere but ads sent to the house
which I don't get
but
asked on FB and they PM'd me today --that was good CS

crazy busy
the GCs rolled but I only did 2

bought 8
then came back with hubs
each used a GC to buy GC
so I paid about $720 for $820 worth of GCs
thought hub's cashier was going to explode, he couldn't figure it out (it was 6pm! you'd think!) and called it stoopid

trying to create business for themselves?

gotta go nap & get back to being behind in sending out cards
currently in arrears:
Sympathy to guy I grew up with, sister lost everything in Valley fire and just died of heart attack. Apparently her husband went right before her, too

Happy Birthday (Nov 2) with check for nieces 18th bd

Nephew's wedding giftcard-he was fireman in Valley Fire so I was waiting til that ended. Then his aunt (other side of the family) died suddenly at 59yr old. Wedding was July ( I did send card to BIL sympathy for his sister)

SIL's BD is 11/8, I might actually get that one to her on time, if mail makes it to Boise real fast

I always seem to write things in cards that I later realize could be interpreted another way, and am mortified. I guess I need a professional card-writer-sender person Blush3

I have that problem is general. It's why I was banished to the lounge... laugh out loud

Continuing on with allergy talk from the RA thread. I've broken my nose so many times from playing sports that I stopped counting. I've had 3 nasal surgeries to fix my nose and correct the allergies. The last one was a disaster. It was with a general anesthetic and the operation took 8 hours. I got super sick from the anesthetic after the surgery. The recovery period was a couple of months and my nose ended up growing back crooked again. My nose is usually so swollen that it looks normal. On the rare times that it's not swollen, it's a wiggly S. I used to be able to push it back to where it was straight but now it's too messed up to do that. I've also been diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia. My blood sugar can fall into the low 40's a few hours after I eat. The symptoms are very similar to an allergy attack so sometimes it's hard to tell what I've got going on. I'm usually fine in the morning but at night my allergies get much worse. I've been to countless doctors and had countless diagnoses and countless medications and nothing has ever worked. Now I take nothing. Usually my reaction to the medicine is worse than the allergy attack. I'm highly allergic to antibiotics (especially penicillin) which isn't good when you've got allergies like mine.

I have to use fragrance free products, they used to be expensive and hard to find but now they're more reasonable and readily available. Longs used to have a nice selection of fragrance free products but when CVS took over they got rid of them. Complex 15 was my lotion for years, the company stopped making it so I started using Whole Foods 365 fragrance free lotion. I heard a company in Canada started making the Complex 15 so I think I am going to order it online to see if it is the same, if so I'll keep ordering it even though it is relatively expensive. For shampoo/conditioner I was using Petal Fresh organics I found at Grocery Outlet. They changed label to Petal Fresh naturals and started using fragrance so I stopped using. Then I noticed they changed name again to Petal Fresh pure, I checked ingredient list and it said fragranced with essential oils, so I gave it a try. Bad idea, It definitely contains fragrance, I don't think companies realize that mislabeling like that could cause someone to have a severe reaction. I can use most of the EO brand shampoo/conditioner, hand soap, and shower gel (I buy at Grocery Outlet or Marshalls/TJ Maxx). They are scented with essential oils. They have a nice mild scent when you use them, but no lingering smell after they dry because they don't have the chemicals (like formaldehyde and toluene) they put in artificial fragrance to make the smell last forever. The chemicals are what causes me to have severe reactions. I switch hair products frequently, I can also tolerate most Giovanni products (I get them at Marshalls or TJ Maxx, sometimes at Grocery Outlet), and I use Jason, Whole Foods 365, and Trader Joe brand fragrance free products with no problem. I usually wait until Grocery Outlet comes out with a $/$$ coupon and then stock up.
I tried using baking soda and vinegar but I didn't like it, maybe I was doing something wrong.

i'm allergic to the isothiazolinone preservative family. in the US it's usually found as methylisothiazolinone either separately or together with cloromethylisothiazolinone in almost all body washes, shampoos and conditioners, and dishwashing liquids, including all the more natural brands like method, seventh generation, etc. it's an acquired allergy from exposure so i wasn't born with it, or developed it naturally. MIT and CMIT are sensitizers and cause the allergy in some people. it's increasingly being used in products like laundry detergent, paint, hvac units, etc.

i get a horrible rash on the backs of my hands that bleeds and is so itchy i literally cannot sleep at night if i have a severe reaction. b4 i figured out it i was allergic to pantene, my hair was also falling out.

over the years there are less and less dishwashing liquids i can use b/c they reformulate them. i was able to use sunlight for many yrs but then they changed it 3-4 yrs ago. dawn pure essentials also succumbed and the latest this yr is palmolive pure+clear. the only palmolive left that doesn't contain MIT is the orange antibacterial. but it smells up your entire kitchen when you use it now. you can use dr bronner's but trader joe's only carries peppermint which is kinda weird to use on dishes and it's really expensive elsewhere. since they usually don't put the ingredients on dishwashing liquids, it's a lot of effort to find products that don't have it. but since the smell of the palmolive antibacterial is overwhelming, i'm going to have to do some research.

luckily softsoap liquid handsoap is safe but going out anywhere and washing my hands is a gamble. i haven't gotten to the point where i bring my own soap yet but i may have to on a lanyard.

i used to use olay body wash w/ shea butter but several years ago they reformulated. i tried avalon organics but i need a very moisturizing body wash at least half the year so i have reverted back to using bar soap.

for shampoo and conditioner, some but not all of the garnier fructis line is free of MIT and CMIT, so i have to check the labels. whenever i can get it for 1.00 for 13oz i stock up. i had to sell off my small shampoo and conditioner stockpile and now i have to pay for it almost all the time.

I keep a 2oz bottle of Dr. Bronner's unscented soap and a couple of Dickinson's witch hazel towelettes in my purse.

That's interesting. I'm definitely allergic to Garnier but I don't get rashes or anything like that.

According to an analyst for Fortune, if the Walgreens/Rite Aid merger goes through Walgreens will end up closing up to 3000 stores most of which will be Rite Aid locations.
