Names for Golden Retrievers... or any dogs for that matter

70,256 5,366 December 30, 2015 at 10:27 AM in Question
OK, I am hoping that Bea lives a nice long time, but she is already about 13 and had a very hard first 5 years.

A friend in MI has goldens in breeding age and for the last 2 Decembers I just fall for the pics of the puppies. Bea won't tolerate any other dog in the house so I cannot get one (or 2 )now. If they are still breeding in a few years after I no longer have her I think I may want to drive to MI for one or two.

I'd probably want sisters.

My mind already plays games with naming them.

First I thought..
Sanity (as my dogs have been my sanity...grounding me) if I got one.
If I got 2 though???

I had a golden when growing up, named Misty.

I saw one of Daisy's (the friend's golden...momma) puppies on FB and she was named Abby Rose which I thought was pretty

The names Blanche and Rose popped into my mind and cracks me up. On one hand I don't know that I'd want silly names but I keep thinking about that. *will wait for the joke part to sink in

Since dogs are precious to me I thought Sapphire and Ruby.. but it sounds... hmm ehhhhh

What would you name them if you could?

I've always picked a name for the cats after observing their personality for a couple of days.

yea, IF I go the route of taking on another dog in a few years (hey... I am old and in pain most of the time so I might not)... then I might wait to observe them

I do laugh about the golden girls names still ...I hope those names don't keep coming back so much that I end up going with them out of familiarity laugh out loud

I'm glad we didn't do this with our two cats and end up with Hairball and Poopy Butt.

When the time comes, if you decide you can't deal with having a dog full time, you might look into being an occasional foster mom for one of the local shelters.

You could get/foster a Japanese Chin Whee

Ok...it's a small dog, but I love them after discovering the breed and having our Lacy for a few years now.

I've done the same thing. My corgi is 13 1/2 and has been on the struggle bus for nearly a year now. I don't want to lose her but I have to admit, I look at pics of little corgi babies and think about names for the next one too.

But the thing is, no matter what names I come up with, I always end up with something else because I wait to see the personality of the dog. Before we got this one, I considered Emma, Tabitha, Madison and Daphne, but in the end she just looked and acted like an "Abigail Grace", hence, Abby. Smilie

I have a cousin with a Golden and they had her name a year before they brought her home and by golly, it fit perfectly. Chelsea Belle. Now every female Golden puppy I look at, I see "Chelsea Belle". laugh out loud

That was how my current cat Zeus got his name. It didn't take long to see that he thought of himself as King of the Gods and the Ruler of Mankind.
