Are there any runners in the Lounge? OT is fine as long as it has something to do with you running.

So I started Couch to 5K this year, and today I begin week 4, day 1. I'm finding this to be easier overall than I expected it to be.

Who here runs religiously, and what advise do you have to give to someone just starting out, such as myself?

Motivation is not a problem. I find myself looking forward to each run so far.

Indeed.
Shortened it to 5 and barely made it through that.

Gotta send your brain away, man. Dunno any other way to explain it. Sooner or later the desire to run overcomes the distaste for the circumstances. And the way I look at it, I AM getting somewhere: 3k or 5k or 10k or however many thousands of steps closer to my goal(s).

And I had to do it WAY more than three times before I started just tolerating a treadmill. Hundreds of runs later I'm actually sort of looking forward to it. It gets easier...
don't blame you for running kilometers, those are much shorter than miles

Ran a 10k yesterday. Didn't really get to train for it, but went after it anyway. Finished at 1:17:49. Not my best time but better than I expected.

I ran a 5K a couple weeks ago, also with practically zero training this summer. It's just been too hot and I don't get along with treadmills.

I did my worse time in a 5k yet, but still came in under 40, though that's damn near walking time. Plus, I learned that the shoes I'm currently running in might be okay for 2 mile or less runs, but were plain awful for the 5K. I need new shoes ASAP!

When I got fitted, the store recommended I get shoes 1/2 size larger than I normally wear, and because of my stride, EE width. They've definitely helped my run. It might be beneficial to go to an actual running store to at least get fitted. You don't necessarily have to buy there, but it definitely helped me figure out what I needed. My feet don't bother me nearly as often during runs.

And I agree - I hate running on treadmills as well.

I got fitted for my Brooks and I liked them a fair amount. The ones I am wearing now are the same size and were a Slickdeal. I liked them for short runs, but not anything much over 2 miles. I'll go get fitted again before I do another 5K.

So I've slacked off a bit, but today I ran in a 12 hour run [delano12.com]. Not as a participant, but as a pacer fro the guy that got me started on this whole running thing.

I ran with him on miles 43, 44, and 49, and crossed the line with him to help celebrate his 50 mile accomplishment. Amusingly, at one point while I was pacing him he told me to slow down and that I was running too fast for him!

He ended up running a total of 56 miles over 12 hours. I think that is a clinical definition for absolute insanity.

Prior to today, the state record was 71 miles over 12 hours. There was a girl there today that ended up somewhere between 74-76. That chick was a machine!
