We are retiring our iPhones

3,900 659 February 12, 2016 at 05:04 PM in Chat (4) Get Amazon coupons Coupons
My wife and I have the iPhone 4S. The latest patch 9.2.1 (I think) fixed most of the problems that IOS9 introduced to our phones but they are still slow and lag at just about anything.

These phones are getting old anyway, so.

We want something newer and we are considering the BLU [amazon.com]

My question is "does anyone have any experience with the BLU Android phones. I checked the reviews forum but I didn't find anything there.

Thanks in advanceSmilie

Thanks for you help everyone. I'm not certain yet but I'm looking at the Moto X now.
I don't think they "broke" anything. Updates happen. New features are introduced. The new features and the software rely on updated hardware on a yearly basis (at least that's been Apple's general track record). You're using a phone that's 5 years old with current software. That's 5 years of outdated tech that is going to struggle to keep up with demands of the new OS builds.

I doubt you run into this issue if you're on a somewhat more regular upgrade schedule.

The spin tire comment is also much more amusing when it's not crazy early and I hadn't slept. laugh out loud

Don't you just love it when Apple pushes a software update that bricks your phone? It happened to a lot of people with that update. It is almost like they don't actually test their updates before they push them out to the general public.

Wife and I both have the Moto X and we're happy with it.
my last three phones have been Motorolas (Droid Pro, Razr Maxx, Droid Turbo), and there's a reason i keep coming back. i don't like phone cases, and after using Motorola two-ways, i liked their build quality and thought i'd give the mobile phones a shot. i've yet to have any any failures/damage to any, though i'm not too hard on them.

if you're still looking, a quick search shows the 2015 Moto X and Droid Turbo are at least in the same price range new, but i think the Turbo is a significantly better phone (quad core versus dual, much bigger battery, much higher res, 1GB more RAM, wireless charging built in, etc.).

I was quite happy with my Droid RAZR HD until the screen lock button stopped working. I found a workaround involving an app to employ the "tap screen to wake" function and used it for another year.

I feel like tap to wake would drive me nuts. I'd probably be constantly accidentally triggering it.. Though, a quick touch to check the time or something would be mighty convenient.. Scratchchin

It's a native feature on my LG G3, and works quite well there. As a kludge on the Droid, it was... less than ideal, but I had to reach a certain annoyance level before I was willing to pony up cash to replace a phone that still satisfied me in most other respects (thinking about it now, the camera was a bit shite as well).

I'm a Nexus fan wave My first smart phone was the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. My Nexus 5 crapped out on me recently (power button issue), and I bought the Nexus 6P.

I had a Galaxy S3 for the Work Phone (AT+T) and have a S5 for Personal Use (Vz) and work just upgraded the S3 to an S5, so now I have a pair of them.
Love them both.
Picked my S5 up from Costco. There is one in Fresno if OP's Loc is still correct.

/2 cents

oh...I haven't run spinrite on my S5 yet...but the Shields up works GREAT! Roll

I agree. But it looks like you've been around a while, so I was going to let it slide. You're obviously an apple fanboy, and the fact that they pushed out software that bricked people's phones has touched a nerve.

you'd probably be disappointed in that one. with less than 1gb of ram, it'll be sluggish.

i got a nexus 6 (2014 gen) in sept of 2015 for 300. i thought i loved my galaxy s4 but the nexus 6 is a beast. works on any network and if you can get project fi it can reduce your phone bill (depending on your usage).

Not an Apple "fanboy"; Just someone with knowledge of how software releases work and you're an idiot if you think Apple wouldn't be testing software on older hardware prior to releasing to prod.
