How to give Amazon Prime membership for high school students?

237 23 November 30, 2016 at 01:49 PM in Question (3) Get Amazon coupons Coupons
I can't find an answer to this and most of my searching returns "Prime Student" membership info for college students. My brother has no TV but he has broadband. I want to gift my nieces a Prime Membership, but I don't see how that's possible. I don't want them on my account and it doesn't look like they can have their own because the Prime Membership details specifically state "adult". Even if I let them on my account there would be the simultaneous streaming issue, and they would have to be on a kid's account which isn't what I want (they are in high school). I just want them to be able to access their own prime benefits on their own account.

Anyone know how?
Don't have Amazon Prime? Students can get a free 6-Month Amazon Prime trial with free 2-day shipping, unlimited video streaming & more. If you're not a student, there's also a free 1-Month Amazon Prime trial available. You can also earn cash back rewards on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases with the Amazon Prime Visa credit card. Read our review to see if it’s the right card for you.

Facepalm I did read it. He only mention his account not if his brother creating an account.

Generally it's not a good idea to circumvent parent's authority, especially it's relative. No matter what to create an Amazon account and use it's service you will still need a parent/guardian involved (legally speaking) As far I know Amazon prime will require a credit card on file.

If he really wants to setup his niece as the primary account then there is nothing stopping them from doing so. Just get a cheap pre-paid credit card and have his niece create an amazon account.

Netflix may be a better service if the idea is to give them access to TV/Movie.
I'm not trying to circumvent my brother. My brother would give permission and do whatever he had to if I was giving them Prime, but he usually doesn't want to deal with anything computer or internet related if he doesn't have to. He just got a smartphone this year. But that isn't the only issue. The main problem is I would have to buy Prime for him and as far as I know he could only add one secondary account to that, which would only cover one of my nieces, and the other would have to be on a kid's account under his account (as far as I know, I could be wrong). Then there's also the problem with only one person being able to stream at a time. This is why I just wanted to get them each their own Prime.

I didn't even think of Netflix, but what I like about Prime is they get the music streaming, tv and movies, and the ebook each month. And of course the shipping, which I don't know if that's even possible if they just had a gift card and no credit card. I'm waiting to contact customer service in chat to find out more info since their email failed me twice. The whole thing would be solved if you could just pay a little extra to add more people to your own account with security and unlimited streaming of music and tv/movies. "kids" under your account is pretty limiting as far as I know, but I can't technically do that anyway because they don't live with me.

Can you use amazon gift cards on prime memberships? If so get them each a giftcard with a funny note explaining what it's for and why you can't just give it to them directly.

I don't know your family background or maturity level of your nieces so I was giving the advise under the assumption your brother will have parental control.

You don't need to get 2nd Prime account. The youngest niece can use your brother's account. Probably safer too because he will have access to everything she does, step in anytime he needs to, and if he needs to contact Amazon he can use his name. OR you can have your nieces share one account.

The limitation for Prime Video should be 4 (2 per account)

Prime Video

Ways to Watch:
Streaming: You can stream up to two titles at the same time using the same Amazon.com account. You can stream the same title to no more than one device at a time.
Be aware Amazon Prime Free Music/Ebook is not their full-fledged Unlimited. 2 million vs 10 millions songs. Makes sure they have stuff they like within those limitation.

If you are going to go with 2 prime then why not mix prime with netflix? That way they can get both benefits. Yes they may have to share privilege.

Good point about the Prime Music. I am aware of the limitations, I have Prime myself for the last 3 years. I don't use the music that frequently but the streaming I was referring to was based on my nephew who said his wife couldn't stream music at the same time he was streaming. I didn't realize two people could stream video on the same account at the same time though, good to know. My nieces will be driving next year and I had them setup with PCs since they were about 4 years old. One of them managed to recover a Droid and bypass the factory reset protection on her own. So they're a little more advanced than the average teens I would say.

Ya you can because I used a gift card to renew my Prime last year during that deal they had. I was referring to being able to order with a gift card to use the Prime 2-day shipping if you didn't have a credit card...that must be possible too I would imagine. My third email to customer service didn't explain much either. They basically said a parent/guardian should supervise the account, then it said "Yes you can buy Prime for your nieces." Not going into any detail about anything I asked about. I guess I'll just see what happens when I decide to do it.
