If you are going to do the entire shower in tile, I'd recommend using Kerdi (a waterproof liner that goes underneath the tile) It's a great product.
Basically, it's not a good idea to rely on just tile sealer to keep water out of your walls.
I thought that for at least a whole year.

Ok, tell the wife to go to the John Bridge forums and make sure what's she's doing is ok.
Doing them "to code" really is just a ticking timebomb. You don't want them to leak a few years down the road and have to redo them.
I mean, I've already redid or helped people redo 7 tiled showers (3 of my own in two seperate houses) because it was just tile put on cement board/drywall.. That just does not work in the long term.
