Just called T-Mobile to confirm activation and the call was dropped mid-call. When the T-Mobile rep called me back, the line rang on the new S8. She confirmed that the SIM and IMEI in their system matches the new one I entered on the Samsung.com website.

So in a nutshell -

Insert the provided new sim card into the S8
Activate phone on Samsung.com and enter new SIM info
Wait about 30-45 minutes to allow the activation information to propagate through T-Mobile systems
Enjoy your new S8 on your existing line

POTENTIAL INABILITY TO UNLOCK T-MOBILE PHONES BOUGHT DIRECTLY FROM SAMSUNG.COM
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...g_tmobile/

Looks like someone successfully unlocked tmobile phone purchased from samsung.com
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...k/dh2ok5k/
EDIT: Except they didn't... read the whole comment thread

XDA member has gotten the phone unlocked successfully

Quote from cert15z :
You need to call T-MOBILE and get your request escalated to a Sr. Technical support rep. From there, they need to have your device entered into the device distribution inventory system. Once that is done, you will be able to use the Device Unlock app on your phone.

So much mis-information in this thread...

I bought the S8+ from samsung.com and successfully unlocked my device. Instructions:

Option 1: T-Force
1. go to facebook.com and send them a message
- Request to speak to T-Force and someone from that team will immediately take over the message
- Please note there is a delay between responses (I'm guessing they're talking to multiple folks) of about 3 minutes so be patient
2. Tell them you bought your device your T-mobile branded device directly from samsung and you need your IMEI added to their Database in order to use the Unlock App
3. They will ask for the following
- email address
- phone number (you'll get a link to verify your account)
- IMEI #
- proof of purchase (send them a picture via the facebook messenger app)
4. They are aware of the situation and will escalate it to the correct team
5. Wait 72 hours (I actually only needed 48 hours)
6. Go to the Unlock App on your Samsung S8(+) and click the permanent unlock button (see attached picture below)
- if successful it will tell you and you'll need to restart your phone (I had to do like 3 restarts)
- just keep spamming the button once or twice a day (be patient...it'll work out)
- the Unlock App will disappear from your app drawer (it's actually just in the "disabled" state so it doesn't show in app drawer)
- Put in another SIM card to verify (I put in a AT&T SIM to validate)
7. Be happy because this was super easy
Note: do not need to wait 40 days (this is not true ... I had my phone for only 1 day)

Guys, to those who plan on buying device from Samsung.com,
myunidays.com is offering student discount on Samsung phones, It mentions up to 20% discount. But it *may* void the 750 rebate.

Multiple people have checked with Samsung rep, and were told a new line is required. Note: Term and conditions does NOT state NEW LINE but only ACTIVATION ON POSTPAID WITH DATA. Other users have confirmed this with reps, with chat pages saved, phone recordings...

As for Activation,
Shop Samsung App allow pre-activation. and the promotion page (click on the promotion on dicovery) on the app says rebate will be accepted.
if still skeptical. go to samsung.com somehow normal link to "my account" doesn't work. I tried INCOGNITO, and it lets me log in and start activation.

sailakfan Today at 07:33 PM #2254

Once you get the phone you have to go to Samsung promotions site and register with the imei, proof of purchase. Once they validate they will send the code to your email.

https://samsungpromotions.com/

https://promos.samsungpromotions....lixredeem/

You can use Shop Samsung app to register your promotion. In the app, go to Menu > My Promotions, and register. For proof of purchase, take screenshot of your order (hold power button + volume down to take screenshot).

I can get to the account page but when I click on activate I get the same message as others even though I "pre-activated" ahead of time. Called samsung CS and was told the number to dial for Samsung's mobile activation department is 866-265-4504 but of course, they are out of the office as of 5PM EST.

Just spoke to the Samsung activations Dept, they are aware of the website issue and said their tech team should have it resolved by the end of the day so phones can be activated at samsung.com

Quote from dragon1976 :
anyone having issue with zip code error. I was able to pass that and successfully activate.
1. download Samsung shop app on Samsung phone with Samsung account added in setting.
2. open Samsung app and select my order
3. fill out your tmobile info
4. if zip code error enter zip code that is tmobile coverage. keep trying with zip code that works
5. open chrome incognito and log in Samsung.com
6. go to my account and there you will see info for entering imei and sim

Those of you who are getting "service not available please try again" error while activating the phone from samsung.com. Please try to activate one of the phone using the line on any of your friends T-mobile account. Put your friends Sim and press activate. I confirmed from samsung and it is fine if you activate one phone on your friends number. You dont need to keep using that phone on same number to get rebate. Just activating is fine.

We should all email Samsung US to get them to fix the activation issue quickly:

I don't have to activate a completely new line with T-Mobile? I can just activate it on one of my existing 4 lines?
*** at 16:15, May 18:
Then Samsung will refund me up to $750?

Yes, you are correct.

Does "activate a line" mean add a new line, or can it be activated on an existing line?

Received the phone MAY 23rd Activated MAY 23rd been well past 10 business days. Nothing they canceled the entertainment kits on my order page. No Netflix codes.
Samsung says the value the entertainment kit at $170 so i will dispute the charge with chase bank for $750 + $170x2 $340 so a total of $1090. Never will buy Samsung products again. It put me so off that I'm not keeping the phones ill just sell them. Originally wanted to keep 1 and sell 1.

Question: Has anyone used an ATT or Cricket SIM in their unlocked T-Mob Samsung S8? I am only getting 4G speeds and not LTE...it seems like the phone is not finding the proper ATT LTE band for my area (it is using band 4 for the HSPA)

I have read that these have 26+ bands available. How do I unlock them? Do I have to flash my phone with an factory unlocked S8 image?

Didn't realize I received my rebate 2 days ago. Glad all this is almost finally over. Now it's just waiting for the entertainment kit to show up and remembering to activate those Netflix codes!

Got the refund email(s) for two orders on 6/3.

Refunds (discounted due to UniDays ) of 693.75 x 2 just posted to Amex.

Activated four Netflix vouchers and have about $240 in credit in my account now.

Unlocking is a pain. Spoke with Twitter 3 times and they keep submitting my unlock request into some black hole as I don't get any follow up and unlocking does not work.

Once unlocked, I will try to sell some of them!

Status today is still not unlockable. Chatted with T-Force again today for nearly 2 hours. Apparently it should be unlockable and they can't figure out why it isn't.

Ya I have been on chat with T-Force too. As per them, it was approved yesterday and the database should have been populated in 24 hrs, but still the same error.
Have you tried clearing the cache of 'Device Unlock App' and then restarting the phone and trying the Unlock again ? This was one of the suggestions from them.

Thanks, yes I did try that, but no luck. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Honestly, I'm not in a rush on my own device, but I did sell the second device on the promise that I am working with T-Mobile to get it unlocked, so this issue is a little inconvenient.

I received my refund email on June 2nd, but still no sign of refund also, is anyone having issues with blurry front facing cam? Mine is blurry.
Same boat, tomorrow will be 14 days so I am guessing last day to cancel the T-mobile line. Cant afford $75 on 1 line when I can get H20 for $36 a month with 8Gigs of data.
I got both phones unlocked and Netflix codes. Just waiting for refund to hit the credit card and cancel T-mobile line,
No bite even at $600 for unlocked device on swappa or CL.

Not really too happy about the battery life.coming from a One Plus 3T it seems like a downgrade (slower and bad battery life, older version of android)

Few things bugging me.
1) Notifications on LTE for Whatsapp keeps saying, you may have new messages and I have to manually refresh to get the messages. Tried all the notification and power management settings, feels like I am dealing with the chinese phones which has some very aggressive power saving
2) I am hating the system wide white/light theme
3) Not liking the white keyboard no option to change the theme
4) Hating the app drawer search, looks more like spotlight search with a bunch of text trying to search items from Galaxy Store
5) The slow fingerprint scanner, for some reason I think Samsung is yet to master I feel any other finger print scanner is way faster.

Is this really a $795 phone? Not to me when plain vanilla android offers you more customization. I liked the days when people liked Samsung because of the extras they had in TouchWiz compared to the stock launcher even though TW was slower.

My 6 months old One Plus 3T is running Android 7.1.1 with May 1 security patch and S8 is running April 1 security patch I am guessing since it is carrier branded will not see any updates either.

If I can sell both my S8 and One Plus 3T I am gonna buy the One Plus 5 on Jun 20!

Did you activate your second phone before doing an unlock? Tomorrow is also last day for me for the 14 day Tmobile refund, but tried running unlock app today, but nothing. I never activated the second phone... should I have done that?
