Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Same thing happened to me when I returned my MB. You should've kept the MB shipping carton, but even if not, the MB packing box itself is sturdy enough to survive transit. All I needed was the shipping label. I asked for a second return kit, since the 1st kit's label has a 2lb shipping limit on it. The 2nd kit has the same 2lb label, but I found out that it's fine to use it, since the shipper (UPS) automatically charges Sprint for the actual weight.

Sprint is very anal about the MB. I get emails telling me to turn it on, else I'd have to return it, lest I be charged $140 for having it and not using it. Then, once I returned it and got confirmation email, I get 4-5 follow-up calls asking if I've returned it or not. Turned out that it's because of the extra return kit I requested.

You can't quit whenever you want. The account only closes at the end of its billing cycle. The MB has to be shipped back via ground, then it has to be processed by Sprint.
I still have the original MB boxes (both mailing and retail). I've got the return shipping label they sent first, but it has a different order, conf # or something. I guess they want me to use that label, but I don't want them pulling a fast on on me.

edit: I'm not planning to do the switch and come back. I was just curious how one would be sure that the account was closed and the days (45) started counting.

That issue of the packaging has come up before and they said to some people just take the label from the undersized packaging kit and put on the outside of the original packaging and ship it.

As to how I will ensure that the 45 day clock has started, I will first of all get everything off the account, and then call various departments to confirm the date on which I will be eligible for a new account. If this is not counting down day by day, I will know they have not yet fully closed the old account and will keep on it until they do.

For the same SSN, it worked in early Jan but yesterday we tried for one of my friend account, he was told to wait 45 days. I think they might added a check now
Thanks that is very helpful to know!

It could even be random depending on the rep. The Telesales staff is very anxious to make the sale so I would not be surprised if some of them cut some corners if they can.

From one telling, what actually happens procedurally is that they phone the billing dept internally and ask them to remove your SSN from the old account so that they can open a new one using the SSN. So it may be the recipient of that call in the Billing dept. who decides, and there may be an element of randomness in whether they require the 45 days or not, or how they calculate it exactly.

The good thing about trying right away or at least after a few days is that it at least hopefully puts them on notice to start the 45-day clock (or at least you can claim that later if need be when pleading for leniency).

Thanks. I am getting a lot of helpful info on this from people here.
I am going to work hard on Sprint to close it out without waiting for the original cycle to turn, but worst case I can live with the cycle as is and still be within the current likely end date to take up the promo.

Nope -- need to use it on Boost for 1yr before they'll allow use on Sprint postpaid

Thanks for the fast reply! Do you know if any of the Boost Mobile iPhones can be used internationally on a permanent basis? Going overseas and would love to gift some of them.

Were they charging you a monthly fee for it? They sent me one too, but there is no fee.

Yes I cancelled it today. Thanks for thinking to point it out in any case.

I should able to get another Magic Box later on. I hate imposing on them the cost of shipping back the old one, only to ship back a new one later, but could not think of any way around that.

I have ported out 2 of my 3 numbers. Once else everything looks perfect I will port out the remaining one and later make sure that the account is formally noted as closed. Then wait 45 days.
Why send back the Magic Box at all?

So I can close my Sprint account (in order to release my SSN to open a new account under that SSN 45 days later as a new customer with a brand new free plan start date)

They told me mine was mine to keep. Do I have to send it back in a year when I close my account? If so, they sure didn't tell me that. I also have an Airave (also free). Pretty sure they said I don't have to return it.

You it says so in the agreement that comes with it and other posters confirm that they ask for it back.

I only get B25 here, no B26 or B41, and the MB didn't get me any faster speed than the naked phone placed in the same spot in the window.

BTW, Sprint will send you an MB even if you don't have B41. It then uses B25 as the backbone, and resend the signal as B41.

Don't know about the Airave, but the MB is definitely not yours. The "property of Sprint" sign is prominent in the MB box, and if you leave it off for a while, you will get nag emails telling you to turn it on, or return it, or pay for it ($140). It's shown as another device (aside from your phone) in your online account. You can't close the account if it's still there. You can't sell it either, as aside from the $140 liability, Sprint obviously keeps track of which MB goes where, and may not activate it in a different location.

Per the news blurbs, Sprint is counting heavily on the MB (which is a picocell and not a repeater) to expand its 2.5GHz coverage. The unit is in short supply, so Sprint will keep close track of the ones it deployed.

The return will take about a week by ground, then another week before Sprint will send a confirmation email. Can't close the account before then.

Thanks, I will have to look further into it. I haven't even taken the MB out of the box it was shipped it, so I haven't seen any packing papers or agreement. I am using the Airave, but didn't notice an agreement. I will definitely look for it since you mentioned it.

I looked on a nationwide Craigslist site to see if anyone was selling theirs. People are definitely trying to sell Airaves, and I found 2 trying to sell MBs. Prices ranged from $12 to $100 LOL

I was getting both 25 and 26 at my house (seems to randomly change) and 2-3 bars of signal--with 2-5 mbps down and almost nothing up.. After setting up the Airave, I'm getting Band 41 in my house, all 5 bars, 35 down and 5 up. However, I'm getting dropped calls and some glitchy conversations. I called and asked tech support to help, which was an hour ago. We'll see it that improves. Ironically, I got no dropped calls or glitchy conversations when I had only 2-3 bars.
