Will the original Sprint sim used with Sprint work immediately with the new plan after this two-hop port? I seem to recall reading about a waiting period. Is that not needed? I just want to minimize the risk that the deal expires while I am on T-mobile temporarily...
Yes it will. I just waited overnight to be on the safe side before porting back to Sprint. Others have done it quicker though.
The waiting period was for porting with H20. H20 makes you wait(up to 5 days) before porting back out.

When they do eventually fail to renew it, it will most likely be at a month end.
Their own internal memos (that they sometimes read out loud to callers) usually quote it as extended to the current month end.
Of course, that is internal only and is not guaranteed.
The current April 30 2019 date for the end of the free period for new subscribers, hints, but does not guarantee, that the plan will remain open for a couple more months.

1. No issues.
2. Yes. Sims can be re-used/reactivated.
3. For same ssn 45 days...for different ssn use 1 day should be good enough.
Are you saying it's possible to double dip with the same ssn? All I hafta do is wait 45 days?

Yesa. I am in the miffle of my 45 day period of exile which starts counting down only after the account is confirmed totally closed.
However you risk that the offer could end in the interim. So you are far better to use a different SSN if you can, allowing you to overlap.

Provided you call in to the 8777 number once you have them, yes. (The online ordering process, by comparison, forces you to purchase sims).

Sims required vary by device, and are free for iPhones at the Apple store, or $2.99 including shipping from Twigby (both better choices than most Sprint stores).

I'm having a hard time porting in an iPhone 7+ from Mint SIM.

I ordered the Sprint SIM, went through the website to port in. Checked the port status on the Sprint website and it says:

Your number transfer has been authorized by your old provider and waiting for port activation. If you have received your phone, please call 866-437-1818 to complete your port. If you have not received your phone yet, please wait to call this number

Fine, so I call the 866-437-1818 number and punch in the number I'm porting. It says the port in will be complete in 15 minutes. Well it's been an hour and still nothing: my iPhone says it needs to be activated and shows "No Service".

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I had to call the 877 number because I couldn't complete the sign-up online. For a Sprint support dept, they are actually very nice to deal with. The lady was patient enough to run my credit check and got me approved, then checked every one of my 7 old Sprint sim cards to see if they work with my S8+. None of does, so she told me to get one from the store and she will call me back tomorrow. She even said that's the faster way to get on the plan and avoid the $10 shipping fee...

So yes, you can get the SIM anywhere as long as it works with your phone. I guess I will find out how much the store will charge me tomorrow. Hopefully it will be around 2.99, same as online.

I would not count on $2.99. Stores vary all over the place and some will not sell them at all.

That phone needs the sim ending in 416Q (or the Boost sim kit which if needed is sold at Best Buy for $9.99 and includes several sims including that one).

So 45 days should clear my SSN and then I reuse my sim and get a different phone and all is good?

That is what everyone has concluded and some have successfully done.
I did have one rep say 45 to 60 days but most say 45 days.
Just to word it precisely
- reusing a sim, or more significantly a phone IMEI, is never restricted and can be done immediately after it is free
- reusing an SSN as a new customer for an offer open only to new customers is restricted as above
This is not tied to sim or IMEI. They could be used elsewhere and it does not matter.

Note also you need to verify your account is fully closed before the 45 days start. For example, a small amount owed left on the account, a magic box left on the account, a paid offer left on the account, a number left on the account - any of these would prevent it from fully closing and the 45 days might never start.

And the usual disclaimers:
- it is better to use a different SSN instead if you can.
- this may cause you to lose the plan completely if you are on the outside counting down your 45 day period when Sprint one day stops accepting new customers under this offer

Thanks for the heads-up. Will get the Boost kit from BBY if Sprint Store gives me a hard time.

Just FYI Sprint stores are largely franchises. I have one two blocks from my house and they gladly sold me a Sim a few months ago for 10 bucks. So it varies

Never mind. According to the Porting Department: 877-503-3269, which I was on hold over an hour to talk to, the entire porting system was down yesterday. This morning I turned on the phone with the Sprint SIM in it and the port finished immediately.

Now I know how difficult it is to deal with Sprint if you have a problem. Hopefully I never have to call them again for anything.
