Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

How fast are the speads in NoVA? I'm also up here and debating switching from Verizon. Do you notice congestion speeds?
No, I didn't notice any congestion so far. I am getting about 30 to 40 Mbps download speed in zip code 22033 area.

Thank you for the reply. The model number of the device that is having the issue ends with U which is the same as the other three that are not having the VoLTE issue. I confirmed all four devices have the same software version (G955USQU5CRK1) installed. But, only Service provider SW Ver is different on one phone that is having the issue.

Service provider SW version on the phone that is having the VoLTE issue is:
SAOMC_SM-G955U_OYN_XAS_OO_0074
[Eighteen numbers]
XAS/XAS/TMB

Service provider SW version on the three phones that are not having the VoLTE issue is:
SAOMC_SM-G955U_OYN_SPR_OO_0072
[Eighteen numbers]
SPR/SPR/TMB

I wonder what is difference between XAS and SPR...

I also noticed that the three phones displays the big Sprint logo when they are powered on. The one having the issue doesn't display the logo at all. I am guessing that somehow different service provider software was installed on the one phone that is having the VoLTE issue. I can't use Internet while I am on a phone call without VoLTE feature.

Thanks.
SPR Sprint stock firmware, XAS Sprint unbranded firmware.

OK so that explains it completely then. The unbranded firmware for Sprint of course does not yet support VoLTE.

Can he just flash the branded firmware on? I assume so.

Obviously he can choose to just wait for VoLTE which is expected momentarily for the Unbranded version.

Not sure if he can flash to SPR frmware directly or need to flash XAA unlocked unbranded then to SPR. I don't know where the XAS firmware even comes from.

Is there ANY out of pocket expense with this deal? Is this a monthly credit or will I actually get a ZERO bill or basically NO bill for 13 months?

(revised in light of edog11's comments)

As edog11 has pointed out, the phone with the issue is running the unbranded model ROM firmware, even though it is a TMobile branded model. Most likely somebody flashed it.

The unbranded version does not yet support Sprint VoLTE. It will soon.

You can try Samsung Smart Switch on a PC and see if it has anything to say. It normally applies updates if needed.

If you do not want to wait for the unbranded firmware to support Sprint VoLTE, see if you can flash the ROM to the standard Sprint one. People on XDA flash S8 ROMs all the time. You could get details there on how to do it. This would actually be better because you will get all Sprint-specific features this way such as Visual Voicemail and Wifi Calling as well as VoLTE.

You cannot expect support from Sprint retail support staff because you are using a phone that has been flashed / modified (and was bought from TMobile in the first place). Well, actually you can if you and they treat it as if it is the U1 (unbranded / "unlocked") model, because that is the firmware that is running in it currently.

With automatic payments it will zero all the charges. only things you have to pay are taxes and fees which is less than $5 per line.

I have been on the BYOD plan for 3 months, trying to do a device swap today, from iphone 6+ to Iphone XR, the XR was purchased from apple store yesterday and it was a sim free version. I did the chat twice today, both reps told me my sim card in the old phone is not compatible with iphone XR, anybody has the similar issue? I think they are the same size? How to fix the problem? thanks for any inputs on this, appreciate it!

Was the second number you tried from freedompop as well? If so, perhaps porting from a different carrier (like T-mobile since they are only a $10 pay-as-you-go dealio...)

Anyway, just a thought.
No, the second number was from Google and they actually say that number is clear to port, but the first muppet I talked with at Sprint has somehow attached my LTE SIM and phone to this failed port request and won't release it to use the SIM and phone with the number that will port.

Currently have a phone and SIM that's unusable for anything on Sprint until they cancel the first request.

Port the phone out of Sprint if you can.
Or swap it off.
Then you can port it in again right away.

A year ago, I bought an unlocked phone compatible with this plan, and signed up for the free year. My free year is almost over and I'm going to cancel (can't afford the normal rate).

I'm going to give that same phone to a relative, so they can sign up for the free plan. **Will they be able to use the (previously used) phone for a new, fresh, 1 year free plan?**

Will they be able to? Or will Sprint say **"Hey, wait a minute, this same phone was just used on the sprint plan for another person, so it can't be used again on this free plan offer".**
