Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Now that I lost the hotspot today "renewing" for my third free year, I tried the DUN method on my S8+ and it works perfectly.

I used the instructions at
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNo...ntverizon/
and also looking at XDA.

Shortcut Master Lite is no longer readily available so I bought regular Shortcut Master for $5.48

It works perfectly, so I have full built-in hotspot back again as well as the PDANet+ add-on as well. .

Moreover, researching how it works, all it does is tell the Android Hotspot not to bother distinguishing hotspot traffic from regular traffic. So it should be completely benign and good for hopefully a long long time.

Having the hotspot back means the plan is no longer handicapped in that regard relative to what it was before.

PDANet+ is great too but is an add-on that uses WifiDirect.

This is covered in the Wiki.

Thanks for the report though.

You will automatically get at the very least a prorata credit when you cancel via Chat or online, which will bring the cost down to pennies or zero.

Best cancel it online as well just to be extra sure that it took.
I ported into Sprint last week, and then 2 days later cancel the $15 complete protection thru online chat. So I should get credit automatically, no need to chat again to ask for prorata credit?

Ah since other phones ring ok yes there should be good prospects of a fix. HOWEVER this is not a Sprint-branded phone and Sprint may not give it the highest priority if it affects only the unbranded factory-unlocked model in a few areas {not that we know either way whether that is the case or not).

Most likely it is related to the new VoLTE code, even when you are not using VoLTE. Hmm maybe there is a reason Samsung has been so slow releasing VoLTE beyond S8 and a couple of other phones! Maybe the code still has issues (even when VoLTE is disabled)!

It could alternatively be VoLTE routing issues in your area or how they interact with this phone.

I do think you could probably freeze the system update app with third-party software to lock on band disablement. Or, as you say, wait a little for now.
ok almost a week after all this started happening and after going through sprint support almost 20+ times including many chats and calls, we were able to get it to work, not sure what the sprint rep did, but he made me try many things over and over again.
My phone gets incoming calls now without the VoLTE so better than before. LTE speed is still crappy, but they are related to sprint towers looks like. Which they have many issues reported recently for the same kind of phone.

Even though it had been was well over 45 days in my case, your post was helpful to me in signing up again today for my third year, in understanding the language of suspending the old accounts.

The old accounts were still blocking the new account of course, so the TeleSales rep needed to bring in a Credit Dept rep to clear them. But everything was very busy, so the TeleSales rep eventually dropped off after waiting a long time for the Credit Dept rep to answer. But I held on and the Credit dept eventually did answer, so, all my myself I managed the (internal?) voice prompts and got to a Credit rep and got her to suspend the old accounts, just as you mentioned, by mentioning that's what the TeleSales rep was going to ask for. Then when I called back in to TeleSales, that had been taken care of.

Quote from freddiez :
Those re-signing:
I am on day 16 of the 45 day blackout to open new account.
Someone on this thread mentioned that they were able to open a new account well shy of the 45 day threshold a couple weeks ago.
I called the now infamous and soon to be legendary 866 number.
Stated that I was previously on the BYOD. Also that I wanted to open a new BYOD account. Also that I just left three weeks ago.
The lovely lady understood exactly what I wanted. She put me on hold to ask a supervisor.
"No, the BYOD is for new customer sign ups. You will have to call after 45 days" was the answer. I thanked her and was ready to hang up and she proceeded to ask if I was bringing the same devices back.
"Yes I am".
She then said if she tried, the credit department would probably see recent activity and deny the app.
"Well, I will try it you will"
We did so.
Credit rep then saw my two previous accounts and said "please hold while I suspend these".
Presto whambam new BYOD.
I don't know if they are more lenient because the end is near, or if I was just lucky.
I'm sure the original rep wanted to sign me up because it would be fast for her. Imagine the time wasted for these sales reps when most call unprepared for port, incompatible phones, etc.
So, might be worth a shot for those worried about the looming cutoff.

One thing for certain. This has been typical of my experiences with Sprint for two years now. Too many good encounters to be dumb luck.
Yes, the archaic CDMA and sim matching is a PITA. Provisioning devices can be glitchy. Franchise stores are a nightmare.
AND I am almost always impressed with the individual, in- the- trenches CS reps.
Third year here I come.
XOXO Sprint.

Very good you are way ahead of many people then as many people on reddit have this problem and they are even quoting the (inadequate) band-disablement attempted bypass which I think they may have first seen here.

Some threads are:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/c...rk_issues/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/c...s/eibbofh/

Some did mention the no ring issue even if those do not.

Hopefully it will get completely sorted out.

There is mention there (or perhaps it was elsewhere) about a "high-capacity tower" issue or some such.

It could even be new S10 features that eventually will do good but are having teething problems.

Have anyone tried to port out and port back in on the same day using different SSN? Or do we have to wait at least one day after port out?

I noticed I was finally able to upgrade to Pie the other day on my Samsung unlocked Note 9. One of the last phones to receive it I believe. Is getting this update a good sign they may allow the unlocked Note 9 to roam on Tmobile when using Sprint? That's my issue. My Samsung unlocked works fine on Sprint, but no Tmobile roaming. Was hoping getting Pie was maybe a sign of things to come.

Crazy the Verizon update is taking so long as well.

Verizon and unlocked updated dropped on the same date, March 12th.

Got mine. Wink

Ok so I tried again, it took me 8 tries and finally got a rep who added the 6 month trial of international call connect to both my lines on new BYOD. So yes it still works!

Sprint will save me a lot !
Thanks. Repped. International Calling promo added in my second line in second attempt. It seems it is eligible for BYOD plan too but based on assigned reps, they use to tell not possible. Updated the International Chat support URL along with below details in Wiki which will be helpful for others.

Update: 3/14/19:

International long distance promo, International Connect: Talk and Text plan free for 6 months. After 6 months, $15/m. Cancel before your trial period ends.

Procedures: Chat with International Chat support and request for above plan in your 2,3,4 and 5th lines. Initially they will say not possible due to BYOD plan. Try multiple times until you get it added in your other lines.
For primary line, it will be added without any struggle.

For Samsung devices, just add DUN to the APN to enable native hotspot, no root nor app required.
How do you add DUN to the apn on an unlocked galaxy s9+ running Android pie? Shortcut master apparently doesn't work with pie.

I think my first post. Thank you SD members for awesome deal guidance. I called Sprint and after the credit check, had to answer a few questions, a couple on names and addresses that I didn't know. They check public records in addition to credit. I was told I'd receive a letter in 5-7 days. That sounded like a decline, so I called again. Turns out, the public records check and answers that didn't match killed it. They had some surprisingly correct info, but some that didn't apply to me. I called again, spoke with 2 awesome reps, that fixed all of it. I will be doing some diligent credit and online scouring, to fix the issues that surfaced. If you get this reply and know your credit should pass, call again, explain the situation. I get and commend them for their diligence, but apparently they do understand that "google" may not be the most reliable source. I will update this if anything goes wrong, but as of now, I have paid for sims, they should be here in the next day or 2.

I will block upgrades to Pie on my S8 until a fix is available (let's hope one becomes available!)
