If it weren't for my need for gimp and MS Office, I'd get one for myself as well. This is a sharp little device and well worth the full price.
Do any of the Chromebook experts collaborate with others using Windows machines and MS office? I know there is Google Docs but my sister's most significant Chromebook gripe is the formatting difference between the two doc-editing software options. Any recommendations to mitigate the differences?

We've talked about it, and you're right it might be the best option available. I haven't personally tested any formatting differences and hesitate to recommend it without doing so
