Qsee / Q-See / Dahua OEM 3MP HD Wi-Fi / ethernet wired IP Bullet Security Camera

You can use either WiFi or wired ethernet to connect to the camera.
With a PoE splitter you can use PoE to power this camera. ( examples below * )

{ to clarify, this camera is PoE compatible with a splitter due to the hardware being a WiFi version of the PoE bullet, however it is not a PoE camera - that is w/o a splitter it will not work. }

From SD note on the 3MP Dome version:
"Note, non-members are subject to a 5% surcharge, making the total $84.99."

ID spec distance and associated area max covered calculations ( 100ppf+ ):

This is the theoretical max based on raw pixels from the horizontal resolution and the horizontal FOV. Calculations based on data provided in ads / spec sheets. Some vendors like to play games and list diagonal FOV instead of horizontal FOV as that number is bigger and not clarify that it is diagonal FOV.
Actual real world results will be decreased due to the quality of the camera ( glass vs plastic lens, compression quality, sw/firmware,... ), installation view, as well as environmental conditions ( low light, haze, fog, glare off snow, water rain,.. ).

Practical meaning: Place your cameras in such a manner that any suspect / subject you wish to potentially ID is within this ID spec distance, as well as in a placement which will give you a high likelihood of obtaining a good facial image ( mount camera 8 feet or less high ).

The following section is from Giomania's notes from discussions on ipcamtalk.com
It is for the Dahua OEM models firmware settings. They should be useful if you would like to run this camera standalone. Do note that in a comment in the Costco page for one of the Qsee camera's a poster mentioned using port 85 iirc. If you know of particular adjustments which need to be done for this camera here please let us know - thank you.

https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/dah...ost-206099 Bad link

..

Dahua Camera Initial Setup
1. Preparation – Before Disabling The Internet Connection

If using a password manager, generate the random password while you have an internet connection; you will copy and paste it in step 6. Access any links in the instructions below you may need, and download the current firmware posted here; Use either NTSC or PAL; they both work on the international model cameras. While you may find newer firmware releases, @nayr tested the version posted in the link.

2. Disable The Internet Connection On the Computer

Take note of your internet adapter settings so you can revert back after the camera is set up. Disable the internet connection on your PC/Mac by removing the Gateway IP address. If the PC/Mac is on a different subnet than 192.168.1.x, you need to change the IP address to 192.168.1.100, and the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 as detailed here.

3. Power the camera via PoE

Connect the ethernet port from your computer to the ethernet port on a PoE Injector / Switch, and then connect the PoE port on a PoE Injector / Switch to the camera's ethernet connection. Some PoE switches use auto-sensing ports to detect whether or not a device is PoE compatible; in this case, the PC / Mac can be plugged into a PoE labeled port.

4. Power the camera via Low-Voltage Adapter

Power the camera with any 12V/1A power supply with a 2.1 diameter x 5.5mm long barrel plug via the camera's power connector. Connect the ethernet port on your computer to the camera's ethernet port.

5. Log Into The Camera

Open your web browser and go to http://192.168.1.108, login with username: admin, password: admin

6. Change the Default Password

After logging in, the UI opens a page where you can change the default password.

7. Change Network Settings

Go into Setup > Network > TCP/IP, and configure the settings for your LAN. Recommendation: Set a static IP Address, and prevent the cameras from connecting directly to the internet by setting a false gateway IP Address outside the DHCP range; leaving the field blank causes an error message when trying to save. Save the settings, power-cycle the camera, and re-connect it to your LAN. Note: The MAC address printed on the camera mount sticker may be different than what is listed in the web interface.

8. Re-Enable The Internet Connection On the Computer

Revert to the initial settings noted in step 2 above.

NVR
Quote from flipmaster :

Q: "What are some recommended NVR options if one were to buy this camera?"

A: Any PC
+
http://dahuawiki.com/SmartPSS/Install_Smart_PSS
  • What company is the OEM of the Cameras? ( Dahua, Hikvision, .. )
  • How many cameras do you want it to support? ( 4, 8, 16, 24, .. )
  • Do you want it to have integrated PoE ports? How many? ( 0, 4, 8, 16, 24, .. )
  • What is the highest resolution camera you want it to support? ( example 1080p, 4MP, 4K )
  • What is the highest resolution display you want it to support? ( example 1080p, 4K )
  • How many HDDs do you want it to support? ( 1, 2, more )

The more electronics in the NVR the more active cooling it will need and the louder it will be.

If you want a NVR which is quiet you should look for one which uses an AC/DC power adapter. This maybe seen in some units with 8 PoE ports or less. It
is possible to replace the factory fans with quieter fans if you are willing to take the time and spend a little extra buying a fan.

Additional Questions:
Q: Is it water proof / outdoor rated?
A: Yes. It is IP67 - which means dust proof, and can be immersed upto 1M in water for 30min. Naturally you will have to appropriately install and protect the RJ45 connection as well as the power barrel connection. I recommend finishing up by wrapping stretch silicone tape around the connections, and consider either pushing the connections back into the soffit or using a junction box to further protect the wiring connection bundle if mounted outdoors.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code

Q: Can this be used outdoors?
A: Yes, it is rated for outdoors. You can use it either outdoors or indoors. Note dome cameras have more glare issues and over time direct UV exposure will degrade the plastic dome. Domes are great when glare is less of an issue and where the camera needs to be placed within reach of people. Also do consider the 3MP bullet version of this for outdoors.
Here is the bullet version: https://slickdeals.net/f/10588984-qsee-dahua-oem-3mp-wifi-wired-ip-bullet-security-camera-from-costco-online-80-until-9-30-2017

Q: How do you run the power wire? Extension cords in the attic?
A: You can use the AC/DC power adapter which Costco lists as included. DO NOT use extension cords in the attic as they represent a fire hazard. You may also use PoE and Cat5e/Cat6 cable along with a PoE splitter to provide power to this camera. Here is an example of setting up the bullet version of this camera using a PoE splitter:
https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/bul...ost-213961
If you have more than a couple of cameras it is nice to use a PoE switch for power instead of AC/DC power adapters. Yes you would still need a splitter for each camera to take the power from the ethernet cable and inject it into the power barrel connection of the camera.
For questions about Cat5/Cat6 cables and sourcing for those cables please see the notes from the 4K Lorex camera deal:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Q: Is this a PoE camera?
A: No, however as the hardware in it is similar to the wired non-WiFi PoE version of this camera it is PoE compatible with a splitter ( more info following on that ).

Q: I want to use PoE to power this camera, can I just connect a ethernet cable from a PoE switch or NVR PoE port to the camera's ethernet port.
A: You will need a PoE splitter to inject power from the ethernet cable ( cat5e or cat6 ) into the barrel power connector of the camera. If you are using the AC/DC power adapter you can use a passive PoE splitter like these examples:
https://www.amazon.com/iCreatin-P...00NRHNPUA/
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matt...01J6JP8XE/
If you will be using your PoE switch / NVR PoE ports to inject the power you will need an active PoE splitter - whose electronics will tell your PoE switch that you need power on this line.
Example - no endorsement
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K4RKZF8/

Q: Anyone know if this version records sound?
A: These are just security cameras with out any audio ability. Most security cameras have traditionally not had audio here in the US - especially as some states require multi-party consent to record audio. Also note that audio in security camera type products are normally asynchronous ( think walkie talkie over and out sort ), and if you need something like phone communications you will need a product based on VOIP standards ( if using IP ).

Q: What about security and privacy of this camera?
A: Remember to change the default password. All security cameras, security camera systems, as well as IoT systems have significant security issues. The best way to keep it secure is to have it on an isolated network. If you do need to see the videos remotely then please setup a VPN instead of using port forwarding. A managed switch can be useful, as well as a firewall like pfsense to also help further protect your network by isolating components.
Please see the following for VPN information
https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/vpn...obs.14601/

Q: Anyone know the length of the 12v adapter? - dahkillah
A: The power cable is listed 30 feet in the Bestbuy website.- by Dahkillah, answering his own Q.

Q: I just received my cameras and were wondering what is a good sd card to use. I have a couple of 128gb Samsung evo select cards but when I tried them out, no data was stored onto the cards.- patinkong
A: ]Based on my experience with amcrest bullet cameras. So, take it with a pinch of salt. You may want to format the SD card first using the device software. This will ensure that the card is formatted correctly. Secondly, you will have to give it a recording schedule. Without telling it to record what you want, it may not record anything.
yes, those samsung cards should be fine. - bayareacooler ( Thanks Bayareacooler! -
answer = format cards and ensure camera is configured to write to the card )

Q: Do I have to get an NVR to use this?
A: No. You can set these up as standalone units. Add a micro-SD card and they are able to record locally. You can then access the web interface of the camera or use software such as the Dahua Smart PSS software to access the cameras.

Dahua Smart PSS software can be used to acces the camera(s) from a PC
http://www1.dahuasecurity.com/download_2.html

Q: I really want an NVR, what model goes with this?
A: You want to look for another Dahua OEM NVR which can handle 4MP+ cameras. Also note you can use a PC with software to function as an NVR. I recommend avoiding an NVR with built in WiFi, it is better to keep your WiFi equipment separate so that you have better NVR options and also that you can upgrade your WiFi equipment as you need to.
A good Qsee NVR will work with this, as will other brands which use Dahua as the OEM. Note people are re-selling the lorex 4k kit from Costco in whole or in parts on ebay, and some of our friends here on SD are buying an extra kit for the cameras and reselling the NVR. Thus you can often find a reasonable and fair price on that NVR ( LNR6100 / LNR6108 ) from that kit on sale at ebay. The price will be cheaper than purchasing it from Lorex directly, and it is a good basic NVR.

Q: does this support rtsp protocol? - GipRaebNam
A: "As many have mentioned these are rebranded dauha cameras, which I own these same exact cameras under the manufacture name using rstp to view them live on the Apple TV. This is how you set it up:

Main stream: rtsp://username:password@ip:port/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0

Sub stream: rtsp://username:password@ip:port/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1

You need to input the following four items manually. username/password/IP and port. The IP is device IP and the port default value is 554. You can leave it in blank if it is the default value. Follow standard RTP protocol and when encode mode is MJPEG, the max resolution only supports 2040*2040." - radiustechnology ( Thanks Radius )

Q: I am having trouble with WiFi access to the camera.
A: "I had a hard time (5 min frustration) getting it registered on Wi-Fi until I realized that I was trying on a 5ghz connection , once switched 2.4ghz it worked just fine" - Homi

Thanks to all the response. Finally figured out a way to configure. Listing here for others.
1) connect wired and find the ip using router software
2) connect to camera usinf ip and port 85 http://192.168.0.102:85/
3) Now change the connection tab to use wireless default and go to wifi tab and select the network and connect. Refresh and see it is connected. remove the ethernet.

May be somesetup in my wifi/router, Even I was not able to connect amcrest with wifi directly and they listed the steps for ethernet to get to wifi and was able to follow it back then.
Also the camera works perfect with amcrest app as well. if you have mix of cams like me, this should be no problem.

For chrome use NACL Web Plug-in extension
- Thanks Nkris!

If you open the SD Card slot (2 screws at the bottom of the Camera) there are two leds 1 red and 1 green when configuring mine led blinks when powering on and the green stays lite when connected to Wi-Fi and ready to stream.

There's also a reset button that you can hold to reset the Camera if needed.
- Thanks Homi!

Quote from vboyz103 :
For those of you who is concerned about the security around these systems, if you have a DDWRT or Tomato firmware. You can segment your network as such (I had mine set to this).

1. Create a virtual (W)LAN for all your cameras etc.
2. Configure (using router) firewall to disallow BOTH inbound and outbound from/to Internet for these cameras.
3. Disallow these cameras to reach your other (W)LAN on your network such as Guest, main etc.
4. Have your tinycam Pro etc. device hooked to this network for monitoring.
5. Of course, hide this network behind your internal network only.

If you need to expose this portion to the Internet, make very sure that you tighten the access into this network via VPN, SSL cert authentication etc.
- Thanks vboyz

I see it has a network cat5 cable hardwire connection. If I go this route instead of WIFI, does anyone know if the ethernet can power the camera?

Hi Smartgroup,

Yes you can use PoE - you will need to get a splitter iirc as the camera needs power to the power input.

Hi Rippa

Reolink is not as well liked as Dahua or Hikvision for a number of reasons one of those is quality of the product and issues with compatibility with industry standards which allow interoperation with products like Blue Iris.

Qsee is using Dahua as their OEM and this is a solid product.

Yes you can use PoE, you will need a splitter to connect power to the power jack/barrel.

Repped for a great detailed post !

I have a three cam hikvision setup running blueiris. Would be perfect if I could get it accessible outside of my home! But other than that it's great. This could be a good addition

Like the flexibility of recording either to micro SDcard or to NVR. Thanks & repped.

Hi, what system specs is your BI computer?
I've been trying to find a cheap PC for 24/7 and I am considering a small cube PC but I don't want it to overheat.

Do these Q-see cameras use proprietary coding or anything? Meaning do I need a q-see NVR or they will work with any NVR?
If any NVR, any recommendations for a turn key NVR? I don't want to create a NVR from a desktop.
