HEY EVERYONE!!! i was just wondering if anyone could refer a decent kitchen scale? preferably digital, and of course with a slick price Smilie
I got one like this from Target [target.com] when it was on Clearance. What I really like is that I can go from pounds to ounces to grams. It's a big help with recipes and portion control.

this is where it gets difficult, I have a solid week of travel for work, totally on a weird schedule and none of the food with me, we'll see how I resist this week in the face of eating out for 8 days in a row
hang in there! remember a starbucks grande skinny vanilla latte with sugar free syrup is 90 calories, and their muffins and oatmeal are good choices for breakfast. Most places show their nutritional info now outside the restaurant. if they dont show it, anything creamy is bad, and fish or grilled/baked meat are your best options. the biggest thing is temptation...

drool before you eat those desserts, look at the nutritional info first. its scary. OMG EEK! Nono

Just a fast update. I havent nearly been at the gym as much as I was. My man started 3rd shift so days when I have no kids around I prefer spending time with my man over hitting the gym... Bad girl I am hehe

Anyways last week I started Healthy Trim and I have lost 4lbs already. Will keep ya updated on my progress with it.

uclena, what's Healthy Trim?

I went to a Zumba class through our Parks & Rec. The instructor was impressed at how fast I got the moves. I guess my past instructor in the Bay Area did more advanced moves. But I worked up a great sweat! I also bought an EA Active with some spare change and Coin-Star, so I can't wait to start that tomorrow.

DH has been getting really stressed at work, so I haven't been going to the gym in the evenings. Which suck because that's when some of the best classes are. But I've been watching my diet and now need to work on setting a work out routine.

I did my first EA Active workout today. Not too bad. So far, better than the Wii Fit and anything is better than the Jillian Michaels game, Oh vey.

Now, I have to get into a routine....that's the difficult thing IMO.

its hard to get into a routine, especially when you feel boxed into it (going at a certain time, eating at a certain time)... real life can get in the way very easily with work, kids etc.

i'm a student and i find it hard so Worthy to all you guys who manage to do it all. keep it up!

i'm also debating on buying a Bosu Ball [modells.com] to train with. has anyone used them in fitness classes? ... i'm having a huge problem trying to train my core Sadwalk i'm thinking it might help?

Is the JM game hard, or ineffective, or what? TIA! Smilie

It just plain sucks. Ineffective and my motions don't register on the game (with the balance board or not). There's cardio sections where you run and the scene just repeats its self. Versus WiiFit and Active where you are on a track and you pass people, they pass you, and the scene changes constantly.

I wish I read the reviews before I got the game. If you want it I could send it to you (I don't want it), but it's not worth your time (or my postage). I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I enjoy Jillian and her work out videos. Which reminds me, I should start doing her 30 Shred program again :S

The only time I used that was with a medicine ball. I had to toss the medicine ball to my trainer (this was years ago). I found it difficult, but good. I don't need it, so my opinion is null. I'd personally rather get a big ol Balance Ball. That's just me.

this is effectively my first day on nutrisystem... it's pretty clear that boredom is my enemy nod starting on a day where I had nothing planned has been a challenge, I suspect work days will be much, much easier
Ive posted about this and yes I know it sounds crazy but Ive been taking arginine just to test it out since I tried it eons ago and it seems to have have had a profound effect. Ive posted that arginine/ornithine which are amino acids found in many foods you eat --- has been the focus of a widespread scam in the 90s and 2000s called "fat burners" in many health product ads.''

It sounded sort of plausible when it was hyped by Durk Pearson who advocated a better living through chemistry kind of approach in which you read the latest research and take a really pro-active approach to getting fit, staying young and all that.

After reading long ago it was bogus I quit but I recently saw a few scattered studies that claimed arginine did work in some way so I thought what the heck, I would try it. Ever since Ive been taking the pills it seems to have killed my appetite. I can still eat when I want but that whole feeling of cravings for pizza or super-hungry feeling --- completely gone. With a little willpower I can go through the whole day not eating. Of course it might be some insane placebo effect on my end. Im curious to see if anyone else has this result. Its simple , go out and get a bottle of arginine and take one a day or so 500 mg or 1 gram.

The caveat of course is anything can happen. Obviously if you have any health problems consult your doctor though he might just laugh at it saying its nuts.

At first I was eating virtually nothing -- didnt bother me at all and quickly dropped 5 lbs but after that it seems like my body went into starvation mode because it was probably too drastic. I didnt lose much after that despite having cut back a lot. I started keeping track of what I ate on a spread sheet. I think if I upped my exercise to keep my metabolism up I would be dropping weight like crazy.

You can get an idea of how hard it is to lose weight if that show Out of the Wild on Discovery channel isnt bogus like many reality shows. If its real , those guys and girls were walking miles a day in rugged terrain , freezing temps and eating very little food. And one guy commented he still only lost 20 lbs or so. Sure thats a lot for one month but he still looked chubby and those were insanely extreme conditions.

I read a recent blurb that said the belief that exercising raised your metabolism for hours after the exercise didnt seem to be true in some recent studies. More info to make you pessimistic and show how hard it is to lose weight I guess.

Anyone around? Or are we all working out?

I've been working out with the EA Active, and I really like it. I don't notice a difference on the scale but DH says I'm looking thinner Smilie

Am I too new to join in? I really need some motivation here. I lost 95lbs two years ago and then gained most of it back during fertility treatments, pregnancy, and now just sitting here. I figure now that the baby can walk its time to start working it off.

working out... I was walking a ton in Baltimore and DC, then I got sick, so it's been absolutely nothing this week so far, nothing like a summer cold Mad but nutrisystem is treating me fairly well, still exploring veggie options I like, I'm not a huge salad eater normally and the quality of the various frozen things tends to vary quite a bit, IMHO.
