Amazon currently has The Complete Maus (Hardcover) by Art Spiegelman for $13.57 (FS w/ Prime):

Lowest price ever per CCC (same as this past holiday). Excellent graphic novel with superb reviews everywhere. One of my favorite books. Enjoy!

Book overview:
Quote :
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Maus tells the story of Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish survivor of Hitler's Europe, and his son, a cartoonist coming to terms with his father's story. Mausapproaches the unspeakable through the diminutive. Its form, the cartoon (the Nazis are cats, the Jews mice), shocks us out of any lingering sense of familiarity and succeeds in "drawing us closer to the bleak heart of the Holocaust" (The New York Times).

Maus is a haunting tale within a tale. Vladek's harrowing story of survival is woven into the author's account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. Against the backdrop of guilt brought by survival, they stage a normal life of small arguments and unhappy visits. This astonishing retelling of our century's grisliest news is a story of survival, not only of Vladek but of the children who survive even the survivors. Maus studies the bloody pawprints of history and tracks its meaning for all of us.

I dunno it might be a little dark for younger readers. Maybe middle school age
High schoolers would be a good fit. Maybe some middle schoolers. I would keep it away from kids in the early teens. There are depictions/descriptions of violence/torture, occasional sexual themes and generally adult topics.
I dunno the price history on it, but there's also MetaMaus for $16.80 [amazon.com], hardcover. The physical book is commentary/analysis by Spiegelman on the book and making of, but it also comes with DVD-R with digital copy of Maus (1 and 2, of 2). Seems like a good pickup for a densely designed work.

Awesome book series. I didn't think I would like graphic novels before I read this. Every graphic novel since has not been as good or, more obviously, as powerful.

Pretty much any. Set up is like Animal Farm, where different groups are different animals. Superb storytelling.

Good to know. My third grader loves graphic novels, has seen animal farm. Do you think it's too adult for him?

I got this in a Scholastic book fair when I was in middle school. Scholastic suggests grades 6-8 or ages 11-13.
