Other than that, they're equal to powerblocks (in terms of value).

I love my Powerblocks, nothing beats the simplicity of their quick change mechanism. But IMs have their own pure-metal old-school charm, and can tolerate a lot more abuse than the PBs. I'd love to own a IM set too.... someday.
If you bought from them direct, then you should contact them about it. Their, customer service is usually pretty good, they'd probably replace the problem handle for free. Even you bought it elsewhere, contact them and see what happens.

Sister likes these,

takes 2 seconds to change from 3lb to __lb. Where as the Ironmasters it would take a lot longer.
These IMs are definitely a better buy, but changing the weight is not as simple & quick as with the Bowflex or Powerblock. And as you get into heavier weights, you will find yourself spending quite some time changing weights between exercises.
My recommendation would be to get the Powerblock U-70 or U-90 sets, depending how much max weight you aim to lift.

If you don't care for the Urethane coating & life-time warranty, then you can also look at the Sport EXP series

Edit: Also, why do I care about Urethane? Longevity?

Urethane or not, they're going to last no matter what. It's been proven these (powerblock/IM) can last for decades and still work exactly the same as you first got it.
For me I hate the urethane powerblocks, adds bulk that is not needed

On the other hand, the U-coating increases the plate thickness a bit and so the overall length of the dumbbell increases slightly. For example, a 70-lb dumbbell in the U-series is 15.25-in long, while the same in the Sport series is 14-in long.
I don't think the U-coating itself makes a difference in terms of longevity. But the construction of the U-series is different from the Sport or Classic series. The metal plates in the Sports series are welded to the side rods, so the whole plate unit is more rigid and can get bent or damaged if dropped or abused. In the U-Series, the plates are screwed to the side rods, which gives them a bit of flex and makes them a bit more tolerant to drops & abuse. So, yeah, IMO the U-series can last longer which is why they come with the Lifetime Warranty.
That said, I've been using my Sport dumbbells for about 3 years now, and they look just like the day they came out of the box. I am certain they will last my lifetime if I use & care for them properly.

I've since modified the handle so it would be thinner. Better for my Trump-like hands lol
Dumbblells huh? Meathead.
