Drinking Water - Most economical option?

I'm a single health conscious guy and wanted to know what everyone here think is the most economical option for drinking water. The water in my condo tastes like crap. I've even had plumbers tell me not to drink city water. I have a costco membership, sometimes will buy case of bottled water or just drink from my pur water filter jug. Is it more economical for me to continue to drink from my pur water filter jug, bottled water, or shpuld I invest in a water dispenser and buy the huge galls of water from lowes / home depot? I go through a lot of water.

Tap water is supposed to taste bad, but it won't kill you.

I think there is a balance here between cost, convenience, and taste. My suggestion is the best balance I found when faced with the taste of chlorine.

Our water isn't necessarily bad for you, but it seems of chlorine sometimes and other times it smells really fishy. We have an under sink filter and another on our ice maker. I just bought replacement filters from Amazon and two pack of them was $29. They are rated for 6 months or 2000 gallons and our water tastes great.
