This also matches the previous Frontpage deal from July.
I'm looking to get my first electric guitar so I'm not really familiar with them. Can someone explain what the difference between this and the "standard" strat? What is HSS?

HSS means the 3 pickups are configured as Humbucker / Single Coil / Single Coil.
Humbuckers are higher output and create a nice driving distortion with a good amp. The single coils are more a standard Strat pickup and can have a more bluesy clean tone with the proper amp. I would suggest the myriad of YouTube videos that can demonstrate both for you so you can hear the differences.
This does not mean that a Strat with an SSS pickup system can't sound grungy it distorted. Just ask Jimi.

HSS is an abbreviation for the three pickups: Humbucker, Single coil, Single coil. At this price, this particular Strat is has to be a Made in Mexico model—not a Made in USA model.
Note that at this price it could also be Made in China.
This guitar, the Fender Standard line, was made in Mexico. They've since updated and re-named the Mexican line as the Player Series as of 2018, from what I understand.
