There are other combos as well. You can get a different board and combine CPU with some PSU or RAM. Like for example you can get G.Skill 16GB 2400MHz for $105 or 2666MHz through combo. R7 2700X was just $10 more, OOS now. I bet these two will be at that price again in the future, then they will disappear, consider it a clearance deal. For 2600 price you get 1700 - 2 more cores, 4x extra threads, but lower clocks and more heat.

This is about my sweet spot for price. I'm upgrading a i5-2500k that I'm hoping to move to my bartop arcade I built this summer. Should I be focusing on ryzen at this price point? Any others I should be paying attention to, mainly for gaming?

2600 is a better general purpose and gaming and I say as a 1700 owner.

Depends on resolution. If you want highest possible fps for 1080p gaming, i5 8400 is a good choice without breaking the bank. For higher resolution, CPU isn't a bottleneck and they all within 5 fps of each other.

I got in on the 1700 + Asrock combo back in May. Great CPU that does 3.9ghz @ 1.344v and incredibly snappy with OC'd RAM. Only problem was the motherboard, which randomly crashes at any OC speed. Hopefully this board won't have such an issue.

Only the Ryzen 2200G and the 2400G have onboard graphics. All the other Ryzen CPUs need a dedicated GPU.
