I collect these for models and play only very casually. The game is a 2 Player tabletop game that needs a 3ft by 3ft play surface. It can take north of two hours to play a game. In order to play the game, which is quite fun, you need at least 1 Starter Set and 100pts of fighters per side. This is between 3-4 small ships per side. Typically as you can fly 7 of the weakest TIEs. The larger ship models are around the equivalent of 1.5-2 small ships.

A Start Set gives you the equipment for the game and 2 TIEs and 1 X-Wing. This does not give enough to actually experience the game but is just a demo. Actual play experience with a full 100 pt squad is very different in a good way.

The game has just transitioned from 1.0 to 2.0. Everything that is 1.0 needs to be converted to 2.0 through conversion kits. These are 1.0 models, so keep that in mind as the jump to 2.0 will require a 2.0 Starter Set + Conversion Kits for EACH faction (the three 1.0 factions (Rebel, Imperial, Scum) have become five 2.0 factions. Most of the 1.0 ships will eventually have updated 2.0 expansions and the production run for 1.0 has ended.
Also, this game is basically heroin, if heroin came packaged in little spaceships. That coming from someone who loves it dearly.

No, you need to buy a starter set, these are version one ships, if you want to play that with version 2 you need to buy a conversation kit

No, they are pieces for a very good tabletop/board game. Some people buy the miniatures to collect/display since they are high quality and very detailed.

This game is a money pit for sure. I had to sell it and never look back. Cool game and fun, but it is definitely the type of game where if you are playing against someone with bigger badder ships (ie they're not just playing with the starter set) you will lose.

Are these 1st or 2nd edition? I've been out of the hobby for a bit.
