Sprint reached out and tells us that the link in the OP is outdated and this one https://community.sprin t.com/t5/E...-p/1033393 is the newer, corrected one.
I didn't want to edit the OP but if the OP wanted to edit to have this link.. that would be great.

She converted 2 lines to $40 SWAC & leased two iPhone 11's for only $15/month more than SERO. Plus Amazon Prime, Hulu etc is added value.
SERO data is truly high-speed & unlimited, but no hotspot. 50/100gb hotspot on SWAC is worth it to my friend - trade off is occasional deprioritization (rarely happens in my experience). SERO has more domestic data roaming. SWAC has unlimited talk/text & 10GB or unlimited data in Canada & Mexico depending on which level you choose.
The entire process was very quick. She filled out the conversion request on a Thursday and heard back from the conversion team by that night. They converted the plan, but it wasn't effective til the following Tuesday (her billing date). She ordered leased phones on Friday and they arrived on Monday (with upgraded shipping). Plan changed on Tuesday and she activated phones with no issues
When you order the new phones, ignore the message that warns about needing to change your plan upon activation. I saw that mentioned I think on this thread and they were correct. You can still order the phones even with that error message.
With that said, I'd like to upgrade to a new phone. I only see options for lease or paying full retail on Sprints website. When I try to do a lease a yellow message pops up saying I'll need to change my plan when I activate my phone as my plan is not compatible. Is that true?
If I were to buy a used phone can I activate it on SERO without my plan changing? What's the best way to reach employee accounts and activate a used phone? I remember there was a special phone #. I don't have a SIM card so I don't think I could activate online.

I stopped keeping up with the crazy SERO rules when the Sprintusers forum went away. Great job by Sprint not to put up a simple FAQ to explain this to us users.

Yes, you can buy a phone off ebay and activate it on SERO. That is what I did last time. I cannot tell you which phones you can activate because there were 4 SERO levels over the years, $30/$40/$50/$60, each with its own list of phones. That is one good thing about SWAC. The SWAC rules explicitly say phone eligibility is the same as regular Sprint plans.
You should be able to get a SIM card from Sprint free for the asking. If not from the 800#, go to sprint.com/storelocator and look for stores that have a check mark next to Employee/AdvantageClub
I've been given two numbers to call for SERO service, 1-866-264-1282 and 888-876-8381. I've also been told if you call *2 from a SERO phone, it will automatically direct you to the correct CSRs. YMMV. Do not deal with the regular CSRs, they simply tell you to give up SERO. I activated my last phone via chat, but I know some people think you cannot do that with SERO. Heck, I had one person tell me they activated a phone for SERO in Best Buy, and I had another person tell me she tried the same thing and Best Buy said they could not deal with SERO. So it is really YMMV.

As long as the phone is US model and unlocked it should be fine. I'm on sero and I'm using a pixel 3 that I bought from Amazon last week.
Just go to a corporate owned store (bring your new phone) and ask for a Sim card for your new phone.
They'll give it to you and maybe they can activate it in store but they couldn't do it for me so I activated online. Took like 5 minutes to activate online.

Awesome thanks for the info!
Also, does anyone know about leasing with Sero? When I try to do it online it says that my plan is incompatible and that I will have to pick a new plan before activating the phone when it arrives.
According to her if I lease a phone it counts as a upgrade and I would have to change my plan. But if I pay full retail or buy a used phones I can just activate it without a plan change.

If you buy/lease a phone directly from Sprint, it will come with a Sprint SIM card preinstalled in the phone unless it supports eSIM, in which case a physical SIM card is not needed. (For example, I recently leased a Pixel 3 which supports eSIM, so I didn't need to bother with the SIM card.

Unless you are a heavy data user and are likely to be affected by the potential for deprioritization (i.e., >50GB per month and you live in a data congested area), then there's really no good reason not to make the jump to SWAC given all the extra freebies, not to mention the fact it's a lot cheaper if you don't need Tidal Hifi or Amazon Prime than SERO Premium ($30/month vs. $50/month).
