You act like disc brakes are common at $250, and they are definitely not. Not every bike needs disc brakes either, especially not at this price point. Why would you come in here just to be so snide and unhelpful?
In short, the Nishiki hybrid bike here for $250 will be a few pounds lighter than your Costco bike. The style will also be a little different if that matters to you. But to be honest, riders of both types of bikes will be considered old geezers. The components are both at the lower end of the price spectrum and not worth the time and effort to analyze. The components are serviceable, generally reliable and durable. Both bike "brands" are essentially stickers on the frame. Don't read anything into their heritage. They are both box-store level mass market bikes.

If I may judge you a little bit based on your post (the fact that you brought a bike from 2017 and haven't ridden it, and is asking about it here on SD), I would say that it is absolutely not worth the extra money for you to upgrade.
I was at Dicks Sporting Goods store yesterday and was scoping out their bikes. I was impressed with the quality of the GT and Nishiki bikes for their value. Today they went on the 50% sale. Tempted by the GT Avalanche but I already have a real good mountain bike and I really want to get a fast hybrid bike. My local store had both colors and they were put together well with my quick check of the shifting and brakes. The difference between the colors is the black/blue has matte finish and the grey/blue has a glossy finish. Both look nice. I don't know which one I like better. I am going to pick up this bike today.

It is so light. I was surprised how light it fell when I took it off their rack. A bike with Shimano EZ fire trigger, Shimano Acera front derailer & rear derailer for under $250? Solid deal. Other big name bike companies with Shimano Acera components cost way more. Felt comfortable on the seat and with the handles. Tires look nice and are going to be much faster than my mountain bike. I also took a look at the Nishiki Anasazi with the shock fork and thicker aggressive tire tread that leans more to trails but I prefer the Manitoba because it felt much lighter and will be faster with the smoother tire.

It has a 4.4 out of 5 star rating (88 reviews) on Dicks Sporting Goods Store website.

*I purchased the grey color and will pick it up later at my local store.

I bought this bike - awhile back $160 delivered from costco...

https://slickdeals.net/f/10745151-diamondback-maravista-mens-hybrid-bike-for-169-99-or-144-99-ymmv-if-you-have-25-off-250-coupon-at-costco

Yea i never assembled it- i can still return it.. Was wondering if THIS Dick's bike is that much better.. The original poster talked about the upgraded Shirmo gear system or whatever.. As you can tell, i'm not that big into bikes, but want to simply get it ONE assemebled and use it occasionally.

Is this Dick's bike for 250 that much better, or should I just assemeble the 160 buck Diamondback I have and call it a day?

Includes assembly if you select in-store pickup, that's got to be worth at least $50. Weight is 27.5 lbs which isn't bad for a hybrid.

How's it compare to this deal?https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/13126774
That bike is about 8 lbs heavier, and has a 3 speed hub rather than a multi-speed derailleur. OTOH it has fenders and disc brakes, although the latter may be more for marketing purposes than any real performance advantage; a road bike will be fine with standard rim brakes in most situations.

Bought this Nishiki last time it was 50% off in May. I like it a lot. Really lightweight and perfect for road and paved paths. Not made for the dirt and rock trails but just what I was looking for. I'm just a casual rider and not a pro. This is perfect. If you are an avid rider and/or a pro this is not for you. You will need to spend 4-8x this price on a bike right for you.

A hybrid bike is one that combines elements from two or more different style of bike. In this case I would say its a hybrid between a mountain bike and a commuter.

I want to start biking to work (10 miles Round Trip) to get some exercise.
I can ride all the way but I can also take backroads through a paved greenbelt. I haven't ridden a bike since 2007.

I go back and forth on whether to get a Hybrid or go with a Road Bike.

Should I get this to start with, or better to spend some more money and buy another bike that can handle daily riding?
