Oh gosh why do you continue writing your username after your post 😱
Plus taxes and fees. If you live in IL like I do, taxes will be like $8 extra per month. There is always a $5 e911 fee plus other bogus fees.
mint is $240 for a yr on their 1 yr/8gb plan. They also have buy 3 months get 3 months free promotion for New comers right now

The Deal is not $300! I work for AT&T and can tell you the deal is not what it appears after you read the fine print. It's a bit misleading to claim the price is only $25 a month! The real price is closer to $33 a month after taxes so it comes out to $401 a year! What is NOT stated in the details is the FACT that AT&T will credit your account with $300 dollars towards the plan and then deduct $25 dollars every month (plus any overages, like international long distance, if any) from the temporary holding account at AT&T but they will charge the additional $5-$10 in taxes from your credit card directly or if you don't setup CC autopay they will deduct the monthly taxes and overages every month from your AT&T holding account. No matter how you slice the deal, you will deplete your $300 balance by month 9 which will force you to top off starting at month 9 of your service or your service will cease to operate from month 9 through month 12!

Looking for a little clarification. I'm on Red Pocket now, can I make the switch and keep my number or do I need to port out first from RP, then hop on ATT Pre?
I ported out of Red Pocket last year. Had to go to TMo and then from Tmo to Att Prepaid
Could not go direct

you can use gift card to avoid taxes. Buy gift card from target or other similar site, get discounted price + CC cashback. At&T doesn't charge taxes when using prepaid balance and auto pay discount still applies even though amount is paid via balance.
I've tried that "use a GC" approach to save taxes/fees - but at least here in OH does not work. Stores charge special taxes/fees on phone cards like that so can't get over on um. at least you still get gas points or whatever loyalty though, so still better than nothing. But not saving money

I chatted with and called the customer service, and it seemed it required new lines activation.

And this... typical at&t stunt. At ~$33 per month, one would better off be a part of mobile share group with a little more flexibility than locking down to this whole year. For people with no access to be a part of mobile share group this might come in handy

The rep told me $25 a month plus $1.50 taxes, but I just read on reddit that a csr told somebody that it would be $50 a month, $40 with autopay.

Damn, only for new customers. Didn't have any promo when I signed up last yr Frown Maybe I should move to Verizon prepaid for few months and come back.

BTW, I get close to 100 Mbps down in certain spots with ATT prepaid and they now have LTE voice.
I just switched to Verizon prepaid its horrid! They throttle my data to dial up speeds most of the time. Cant wait to get off. I'll try att for a month, but if that is more of the same I'll go back to simple mobile. They weren't great either, but my speeds weren't throttled.

Thanks. I started working though this and when I typed my number in it said "This number cannot be transferred". I assumed this the case. Did you go to to actual TMo or the TMo towers through Red Pocket? I feel like I'm getting de-prioritized in metro Detroit area. I'll have full bars, but pathetic speeds. Then, hours later fast speeds. Haven't really experienced this outside of the Detroit area. Was starting to wonder if issues with my aging Huawei Mate 9, but didn't have this problem on Cricket (just throttled to 8Mbps) which is why I switched to RP. Sounds like I may hold off for now or at least dig deeper... Thanks for your reply!
