ATT Prepaid does not have the same roaming capabilities as Postpaid, but there are a few locations in the US where roaming is available. Check the coverage map or see attached. https://www.att.com/maps/wireless-coverage.html

This is the link to check the port status of a number to AT&T if you're attempting to transfer a number: https://www.att.com/port/lnpEntryWeb.do (slickdeals may mangle the URL, causing the page to fail to load. edit it in your location bar to remove everything after ".do")

Here's the link to activate a prepaid SIM. My attempt to activate stated the SIM was already activated: https://www.att.com/prepaid/activ...ivate.html

Helpful Numbers:
AT&T Prepaid customer service (800) 901-9878
Quote from pichandru :
Dial (800) 901-9878 and wait for more options and then say CustomerService.
You do need to have a ATT number here.
Activation number: 877-426-0525

This is the process when porting in an existing number (I have done it twice now):

1) Insert new SIM in phone
2) Activate the sim online at att.com/activateprepaid (enter your number you are porting, the SIM ICCID, and your zip code)
3) The activation should succeed, and it will tell you to click a button to Manage your Account. Click it.
4) Manage Account will bring you to www.paygonline.com. You can attempt to log in with your port-in number and PIN (last 4 of your port-in number), but it will likely fail. Now it is time to follow the instructions in the quote below. (If you were able to log on, you can skip to step 6)
5) Finish your port in by calling ATT. Follow these instructions:

Quote from xiaoxiaoniao :
Just in case you encounter the deadlock of robot chatting when activate your account.
call 877-426-0525
Have you already started to activate your number?
answer: yes
Do you have a phone number?
answer: yes (if porting)
Tell them the number you are porting. You will likely have to do it 3 times, as they won't find it in their system.

[edit 10-05-2019]
I had to answer 'no" to having a number eventhough I was porting because if I answered "yes", then after I gave the robo-assistant my "to port" number it would say that I'd have to call customer service and kick me out. Saying "no" would continue as this guide outlines.
[end of edit 10-05-2019]

Is this for a mobile phone?
answer: yes
Do you have the box the device came in?
answer: yes (assuming you have the sim card with the iccid)
Do you have iccid?
answer:yes
They may say that SIM card is already activated.
Do you already have an account?
answer:yes !!!
Then you will be connected to a real person.
Note: if you make a mistake and say you do not already have an account, they will tell you that you need to go get a new SIM from an AT&T store. That is not true. Call back and go through the process again and make sure to say you have an account. The human will help finish the port and activate your account.
6) The agent should have been able to complete your port in a few minutes. They should be able to send you texts, but you cannot send/receive texts from anyone else yet, because you have to pay the $300 to activate your plan. The agent should be able to text you a temporary PIN that you can use to log into the paygonline.com site.
7) At this point, you just need to add $300 to your account, and your service will be active. You can either a) give the agent your credit card number OR prepaid card PINs, b) log into paygonline.com and provide your credit card or prepaid card PINS, or c) wait for the charge to go through on the credit card you submitted when initially ordering online.
My first time, I tried option c, trying to avoid being double charged - but it never happened. I waited over 12 hours before finally calling in and providing my credit card. I have not been double charged.
My second time, I did option b and entered prepaid card PINs at paygonline.com. As soon as my balance reached $300, my service was active.

Quote from Mr_Skull :
Some links in case they're of any help.
To activate a prepaid SIM- https://www.att.com/prepaid/activ...ivate.html

Mine said it was activated but I couldn't call 611 for customer service on the device and I couldn't log into the account post activation screen. Had to wait till wife came home with her phone to call support. Credit card only showed a charge for $5 sim at this time.

This is to check the progress of a number being ported to ATT- https://www.att.com/port/lnpEntryWeb.do

Mine now says "completed" but before and during activation it stated "confirmed" I believe. I entered the number to port during original checkout and I checked my old carriers website and it showed the number had been deactivated and service canceled yesterday. ATT Chat told me service / SIM was activated and to wait 45 minutes, power cycle phone, and all should be good. Still couldn't call 611 or any numbers on device an hour later. When I did finally get CSR on wifey's phone I told CSR I had activated the line on the SIM/IMCI with the link above and it was successful, I was porting a number, old carrier showed line was deactivated / disconnected, and then relayed to CSR whatever the "port status" link showed above. She put me on hold, told me the port was still processing but she would push it, hold again, and she returned saying the port was done and I'd need to pay the $300 (plus taxes) to get service activated. Gave her CC info and shortly afterwards did a test call with my phone and verified data was operational.

Ironically I avoided the Target card fiasco because I though it would add an opportunity for error but if I had the cards when she asked for payment I probably could have just read the numbers off.

And as I typed this I received a 2nd notification of payment text and my credit card has two $328 pending charges from AT&T... #facepalm

I received my SIM card today and put it in my phone. It came with my ported number from Cricket on the sticker. It was a pain trying to get ahold of someone who would open an Att Prepaid account for me. The SIM card was already activated but had no account. Once I had an account I had to wait and restart my phone to get a password for the account that was sent through text. Then I bought 6 Att Prepaid gift cards from Target and put them on the account. My service has been working great since then. Took a awhile going through all this though. It wasn't long after that Citi sent me a fraud alert saying Att was trying to charge me $320+ (from the original transaction. I declined it.

In the end I spent $256.50 target redcard + $5.37 SIM = $261.87‬/12 = $21.82 a month for a year!

Now I need to do this for my wife's account but we still have $70 from gift cards on our Cricket account.
So you were able to port your number directly from Cricket without going to an intermediary MVNO or other network? During a Chat with ATT yesterday I was told the $25 offer required a new line of service with a new phone number.

Similar experience when I was porting from sprint. Getting a CSR was a pain but once got hold of one and gave the sim number everything was completed in 5-10 min. She asked me to wait until she processes the payment info but I told her that I have refill cards and I would do it online (at this point I was able to log in at https://www.paygonline.com). A little later, ATT tried to charge my card (given at the time of paying for the sim) for $301.5 but it did not go through as I had locked the card in the morning expecting this. Then I went to Target website and bought 6, $50 cards for $270 with paypal+discover (5% back), effectively making it $256.5. It took about 30 min to get the pin from Target and once loaded everything worked fine.

Edit: Prepaid data speed (4-5Mbps down) is much slower than my postpaid speed (40+ Mbps). It was the same experience across different devices.

Does anyone know if they throttle the speed if you use the data as a mobile hotspot? I'm currently on a Verizon unlimited postpaid plan and I use my mobile hotspot for work a lot, but Verizon throttles it to 600kbps or below fairly often. If anyone confirms that they don't throttle this would be an easy switch for me.

Also, can I use this on my Verizon LG G6? I did a quick google search and it looks like I can.

When does your 360-day period begin, is it the date you submit the online order or the date you activate your SIM and pay the account in full?

Yeah no idea why this so popular so fast, every GSM carrier has $25 unlimited talk text, 8gb uncapped speed with roll over, with mobile hot spot, and calling text to Mexico canada on a premium network🤔
But none of those GSM "carriers" support E-SIM... there is a difference between MVNOs and a real carrier.

Stay away from Republic Wireless as they are not a real carrier or even a MNVO. They are are a VOIP provider... you will find certain things just do not work "by design". For example, does your city/county have the ability to call for service by calling 311? Nope, call will not go through...

Thanks. I would have really thought a port from another carrier would have been "new" for this purchase.

My assumption is that att prepaid is as fast as postpaid. If not not so much better than cricket that limits download to 8mbps. Can anyone confirm this as well?

It happened across two days and i have used only 200mb so far. I will try again tomorrow and update.

Edit1: 8/19. checked it today and the same thing. prepaid was 4-5mbps while the postpaid was 40+.

Edit2: 8/20. checked the account again and saw data saver was still on (I remember disabling it...). Once off, the speed returned to normal.
