Plus taxes and fees. If you live in IL like I do, taxes will be like $8 extra per month. There is always a $5 e911 fee plus other bogus fees.

I thought there was a $3 fee or something to be able to unlock a number to port it out from GV
GV didn't require it for me.

AT&T port dept told me to expect it to complete at midnight tonight.

Received the following notification from GV ..

'You have a Google Voice number that has been unlocked. You can now initiate porting with your new provider. We will notify you by email once the number has been ported away.

By default, your Google Voice number is locked, to prevent unauthorized porting away of your number. If you ever want to port your number away, you will need to unlock it prior to initiating the porting process with your new provider.

1. Warning: Google Voice has successfully approved your request, but the carrier to whom you are porting hasn't completed their necessary action. If you are still having issues and your number doesn't successfully port in 2-3 business days, please contact your new carrier for support, as Google Voice is unable to take any additional action.'

Is it possible to use this plan oversees by adding $ for data etc? I would jump on it but we travel abroad in the summer and need the intl coverage.
No.

The best service for International travel is Google Fi. A single line with no data usage is only $20 monthly + tax. Data is billed at $10 per GB up to a maximum of $60. You can pause the FI service for up to 6 months at a time. No other US carrier has such a generous International roaming service. T-Mobile postpaid is okay but they throttle data to 128 - 256 kbps when outside the US.

Impressive. So are you going to port in or are you just coming to just say?
I've been following this thread from day 1, just trying to figure out the best way to make my Straight Talk AT&T number able to be ported into this.

The best place to buy AT&T airtime cards at this time is Safeway (Albertsons and I guess their family of stores). In the Just4 app, they have a coupon for 10% off ATT cards of $30 and above (expires 8/17).

If you have an Amex Preferred card, it maks it 16% off (or $48 discount on $300)
What amex promo you talking about ?

Fi works on most current ICrap phones. Outside the US you will likely see no difference as only in the US does it hop from T-Mobile to Sprint. I was living outside the US for several years and originally had T-Mobile but left them for Fi as Fi doesn't throttle data. I used Fi in more than 20 countries with very few issues.

Just want to add I had terrible 4g speed on at&t prepaid where I live in Spokane, WA. I switched to an at&t mvno and now I'm getting 50+mb down and 10+mb up, whereas I was lucky to get 5mb down on the direct at&t prepaid.

I realize this makes no sense and if anything it should be the other way around, but it's not (for me). This is in the same phone, same location, same everything- just different sim cards, of course. That's my. 02 for anyone who might have experienced similar issue

That is strange. I just signed up for Verizon prepaid and I get similar slow speeds. I had redpocket verizon before and got 25+ speeds.

I'm also on straight talk ATT. I'm basically following for same reason. But I got a few free months from straight talk from referrals. New member get a month, person that referred them get a month. So hopefully everyone can chime in on what officially worked for them.

I went to an AT&T store a few days ago to get this done. Fortunately they were having trouble with their POS system and I couldn't pay. They gave me the SIM which was in their system and told me I could pay online. I had to call in as they put me on the wrong plan. The representative changed it to the correct plan. I saw that I could pay with refill so I bought $300 in refills for ~$270. I'm now paid up until 8/9/2020 with no additional fees or taxes. My net cost is $22.50 per month. This is the best deal I've seen for a plan with a major carrier with the price being less than 1/3 of what AT&T would charge for a postpaid line.
OMG! I requested to port my number when I ordered the SIM for this plan. When I got the SIM there were no directions on how to activate under this promo plan and I couldn't talk to anyone on AT&T prepaid customer service because my number was not AT&T so it wouldn't let me through the menus to talk to anyone. Also I was only charged for the SIM on my credit card. I then just went to the AT&T store and the poor guy that had to help me had such a hard time getting this promo activated for me. Since the deal is online only they have to call customer service, etc. Turns out my port was in a pending state and needed to be completed. Took some time and some additional info but once the port succeeded my number was active and the $330 charge was attempted on my credit card. Only thing is my credit card flagged it as possible fraduelent activity so it was declined. They had me check my account on paygonline.com and said that as soon as the $300 was paid my service would be active. I then followed others advice on here and went to Target and bought $300 worth of AT&T prepaid cards ($85+$85+$65+65 - there was a $5 discount on each card and redcard savings that really made for a nice discount!) Once I added all the PINs from the cards to my account, BOOM! service was active and working. This was a lot of work to get this done but a good deal after all the trouble!

Thanks, I would say the Walmart AT&T deal is still better.

Also, to clear up some additional confusion in this thread. When I bought the prepaid AT&T cards at Target both E911 fees and sales tax were added on to the total. So there should be no reason whatsoever for AT&T to charge any additional for this for the duration of the plan.

I've been reading people only have to buy $300 worth of prepaid refill. Don't you have to get $330 including tax? I believe mine was something like $327, just want to clarify. Thanks.

You'll pay the tax when you purchase the cards in store.

I'm checking Target online, I'm not seeing tax being applied. In this case, I should purchase $330 instead?
