Good starter for an atmos setup? If wanting a 5.2.4 setup do these make sense up front? Ceiling wont be matched or subs as are existing. But would be willing to switch fronts and surrounds. Matching cc and rears?

I have it and tbh never plugged in the atmos - floor bounce is not optimal and I found out that the atmos modules built in are worse then the $150 modules they sell seperate and really didnt have a good ceiling for it anyway. I have modules mounted on my wall.
I have read bad things about using towers for anything other then fronts. You really don't need anything nearly as fancy as your fronts for them anyway. Can just get bookshelfs and throw the seperate atmos modules on them.
Ok. saw the 590s on sale for a bargain recently with people suggesting a 590 as center as well. Any preference for the 580 vs 590? Thanks for the responses. Will stay away for now. Used to Mirage bipolar which fills the room well. May try to use them for atmos at first if needed and see what the result is. Was going to move them to another room.
I have a pair of the rp-280fa's for my fronts and this pair as my surround backs.
Atmos works from these speakers but you need to be sitting at the correct angle to hear it. For example, in my set up, I sit closer to my back speakers so Atmos works really well from the back, not so much from the front. But I turned up the front Atmos speakers up a bit and I can hear them, but they just don't have a huge Atmos effect. They are great speakers nevertheless.
So when you folks are discussing 5.1 type stuff, does that imply that you are thinking mainly home theater ... .watching movies type setups? Is that what these are intended for?
.... or are these respectable for (somewhat) high-end stereo (music) systems?

Well you could turn your 3.1 into a 5.1.2, or just a 5.1 with these, depending in your preference.. so yes it would be better.
