Lowest price of the year.

Features:
Smart TV with Bixby Voice
Motion Rate 120
Dynamic Crystal Color
Bluetooth
Clean Cable Solution
Sort of like 7000 & 8000 series mix together with some features on both. Not as good as 8000 but better than 7000. Way cheaper than 8000 and actually cheaper than 710
I'm not sure how accurate this is, but this model has a PQI picture quality index of 1900. 7100 series is 1400, while 8000 series is 2500.

For 499...run...dont walk to Costco.
Make sure the panel version is FA01. AB02 is also good...but not models with D or C letters. side of box. FA01 is considered Samsungs best panel.
Make sure you get panel FA01 which is made by Samsung. On side of box.
Fantastic upscaling unlike Vizio. Star Trek 1960 tV series looks great. Sharp. Even when its only 480i.
DVD look great too. Even older black and white series like Wanted dead or alive looks great. Uses 3 scaling engines with special ones for content below 720p
The cleanest tv out there in terms of image without any dirty panning issue. Fantastic colors..
turn off motion. It works better.
See my post on settings. Lots of see
TV prices are dropping like crazy.
Get this TV now before they sell out. This use to be 800 bucks. Better than Vizio V or TCL or LG IPS panels.
Not as dark blacks as OLED but still strong contrast.
wide viewing angle for a VA panel. Wide color gamut. Mega Contrast.
uses the same dot film technology like the 8000 series. Its really a partially strip down 8000 (less motion controls) . but better viewing angles. The 8000 you have to sit dead center. Also the 8000 has some DSE in the center.

I am trying to decide between those two...

Edge lit does not have as deep as blacks ...but also does not have DSE and blooming.
My tv on a gray screen is a perfect gray. No bars..no blobs...no dark areas. Great for sports. Rtings has already noted DSE in M series and TCL series (dont like glossy screen).
Yes...the picture is great..until you see a soccer or hockey game and wonder what are those dirty bars that pan when there is action.
This TV is for folks that hate DSE...like me. An original Plasma owner. Zero DSE in Plasma. Pure TV screen like it should be.
If I become president...I will ban any TV with DSE...that includes banding in OLED.
Is this the best TV for picture...of course not. Is this the best picture without damm DSE...you bet it is. I already dragged back my last TV due to DSE...and dragging back a 65 inch TV sucks.
Plus you forgot about upscaling. The Vizio is really bad at upscaling. I seen that TV upscale. The Samsung upscale 480i/720p engine is even better than my Panny plasma engine. I like to watch old DVD and old series.

However every tv on the market has its faults, even OLED. You lose peak brightness and risk burn in with OLED, and they do degrade over time. VA panels cant get the deepest blacks like OLED but theyre improving and they also have worse screen uniformity and response time. With this Samsung you dont get HDR, youre really just buying a standard 4k TV since it lacks the contrast and peak brightness to get anywhere near being able to display it. I dont believe it has the 120hz native display like the 8000 does but I could be wrong.
The Vizio M658-G1 gets great reviews, but would the Samsung 740D be the better choice compared to the Vizio M658-G1 if upscaling is imoortant?
Also, the Vizio does not support Miracast so you cannot use it as external display from a Laptop whereas I believe this is possible with the Samsung, correct?

My current set has as much DSE as my plasma..which is near zero. I cannot even find it.
Sure...I love to get the Vizio PX series...or M series..but the scaling and DSE sucks. No panel lottery for me.
Sure I love to get the TCL series but the glossy panel and DSE sucks. No panel lottery for me.
Sure I love to get the LG tv but they use IPS panels with poor contrast.
Sure I love to get OLED...but dont want burn in.
The only TV I would consider with low DSE is the Sony 900f.
I wish my 740d had the blacks of the Vizio PX or TcL 6 series...but I cannot stand any DSE.
My plasma has no DSE. My projector has no DSE (optoma Hd141x). I would have returned this 740d if it had any DSE. It does not. Its is near DSE free tv. Its a give and take...Wish they made a TV with deep blacks and no DSE....damm..they did...Plasma.
It is a good TV overall if you consider not having DSE as important part of your buying selection. If I love DSE...I would get the TCL 6 or Visio PX
it really sucks...movie..natural...dynamic...but standard really is like eco mode.
turn motion off.
Want more settings...hook up roku to HDMI...you get more settings using HDMI...
HDR sucks on this tv...SDR is great. If your getting HDR signal you can control it by using HDMI. The internal apps cant turn off HDR.
there is one scaling engine and optional 2 engines. I use film2.
The bluetooth remote will control stuff. Be patient. You have to state does not work...it will then try another signal to get the item to work.
Turn down brightness actually helps contrast to -2.
Picture Settings.
Natural...great for standard TV shows
Movies...great for movies..adjust to allow gamma selection
Dynamic...mind blowing..
Standard...makes your tv real dull..no matter what I do..its dull. Good to trick your friends before you change it to another setting.
If you get FA01 panel you should have NO DSE...no dark corners..no blooming..no bars...
you should take some time to calibrate the TV.
