This is direct competitor of XPS 15. However only downside I can see is the lower battery capacity. 69 v 97. With 4K screen it will not last more than 5 hours at 50% brightness.

Can't be changed via USB C. Charges very slow.

It seems that the screen gamut lacks and the battery lacks as compared to the XPS 15 and Mabcook Pro. However, for the price this seems to be worth it as everything else is essentially the same. Also I may upgrade the wifi 5 card to wifi 6. I might go in for one with a 3.5% rebate from a site that does those sort of things. (It's my understanding that we're not supposed to name them directly? Rhymes with you-can-tan)

EDIT:

Going through lonovo's site directly. More rebates, coupons, and discounts. Plus can upgrade to 1TB SSD to make it the same deal and then upgrade the WIFI card for $15.

Isn't IdeaPads the budget version of lenovo? Can some kind person explain how the different brands stack up? Is there anywhere that clearly differentiates them?

Although the IdeaPad name is commonly associated with inexpensive entry-level to mid-range offerings, the IdeaPad S740 is easily the most luxurious and powerful in its family. The big catch is that it'll cost you almost as much as the more well-known Dell XPS 15 or HP Spectre x360 15.

As per https://www.notebookcheck.net/Len...78.0.html:

Traditionally, the IdeaPad series has been home to Lenovo's more affordable PCs designed for users on tighter budgets in contrast to the higher-end Yoga series. The IdeaPad S740-15 we have here today throws this all out the window by offering both a powerful Core i7 H-series CPU and GeForce GTX graphics for a comparable level of performance to most high-end multimedia laptops. Even the Yoga C940 15, which is Lenovo's higher-end alternative to the IdeaPad S740-15, comes with the same CPU and GPU.

Any thoughts on this laptop as a replacement for a 2015 Macbook Pro? I'm only concerned with design elements (screen, keyboard, trackpad, ports, etc.). I know what I'm looking for under the hood.

In terms of taste for my spouse, I know the keyboard and smaller trackpad of my Lenovo Yoga 14 are not preferred. For Lenovo's offerings I started looking at IdeaPad today as the design elements seem similar to MBP. Now I'm also looking at the XPS. So, I'm looking for insight.

This will be afar better replacement of your 2015 MBP. However, the battery life may be short due to having 4K Display, very powerful 6 Core 45W TDP CPU, powerful dedicated graphics card and a moderately sized 70 WHr battery. XPS 15 model with 1080P display and the 96 WHr battery may be a better choice if you're looking for better battery life.

I appreciate the link, but the computer similarly equipped isn't close to the price of this slickdeal. Cheaper computer isn't 4K and still costs $100 more. If I spec it out to match it's $1,615. Unless I'm missing something?

I was able to get 8% cashback from r ak uten and then they also offer other discounts like teacher or student discounts for example. It's worth a little exploring. I got mine with upgraded wifi card and 1 TB harddrive for under 1300 all said and done.
