Good price but not sure if it's worth it due to the Amazon reviews.
The comments I'm seeing on amazon seem to be people with unrealistic expectations. This seems similar to how you'd make ice cream in a kitchenaid ice cream maker. You need to freeze the bowl for over 24 hours. You then need to make your ice cream mix, that needs to cool down, and then after churning, you need to put the ice cream back in the freezer to solidify.
Don't expect to get this, and go from milk/cream to ice cream in half an hour.

Sounds like ice cream making machine have taken a step back. I remember the old hand crack type...poured in the ingredients....took turns turning it while adding more rock salt...and then in about 45 mins....soft ice cream.
Do you have to use some kind of secret ingredient to makes these work? Do I have to keep buying something from the company to make ice cream?
Nope. It comes with a big insulated bowl that you put in the freezer overnight ahead of time and then you just put your regular icecream ingredients into it when you're ready, let the icecream maker run and presto within like 30 minutes you have icecream. Only caveat is the waiting for the bowl to freeze and you can probably only make one batch at a time.

These do make soft serve ice cream. I think the complaints are from people whose mixes or bowls are not cold enough, overrun too long, or it's a poor recipe that becomes far too icy.

you only need some form of milk, sugar and cream for a bare minimum ice cream.
