picked mine up in LaPlata, MD. It was a bit of a drive, but saved $100. Had a yellow clearance sticker on it. This is a new model for 2020, haven't seen any deals on it until now.

You took quite the chance driving a long distance for a Walmart clearance item. Like 95% of the time they don't work out.

Got mine for $300. There were some a little further away for $200.
It's a neat design for $500 and can produce amazing food but know what you are getting into before buying one. the inner burnbox shell will burn out by design. If you don't manage your grease you will get flare ups with the potential for destroying your cook.
The controller wifi antenna needed to be replaced on mine and connectivity isn't always solid.
The next closest gravity fed smoker will get you to $1500 with a controller (Old Country with a Fireboard added on). So take this into account when you have issues (and you will).
There are a lot of mods popping up and what seems like a few good Facebook groups (if you don't mind weeding through people complaining about $500 of quality for $500).

I don't normally go for any extended warranty, but Walmart offers a 3yr for $34 and I went for it.

Probably smart. Do you know how the extended warranty works? if the controller dies do you have to bring the whole 140 lbs grill in for a replacement? I am assuming these are seasonal, if WalMart even continues to carry them so I am not sure if they will even have the option of providing a replacement.
For me it's been 50/50, but the deals have been so worth it.
I don't think I've ever found one of the clearance things I go in searching for, I'm like 0/10. I only look if I'm there anyways, waste of time and gas if I made a special trip for it. Certain areas are probably better than others, but my local Walmarts are always a bust.

I am debating trying this easy to use charcoal style vs a digital smoker..saw review of this new innovation with ease of use but has quality concerns(rust, etc.) So an extended warranty will be good idea. Walmart will issue you money if no more product. It worked out for my robot vacuum before.
I am a BBQ judge and about 90% of competition teams use a professional version of this type of smoker. I've had some really good BBQ out of gravity fed charcoal smokers.
There is a FB group for this model. There is a guy on there selling a stainless insert to solve the firebox issue mentioned above.
