What happened to the $649 MacBook you could get every year with the $200 off macs student deal coupon!!!! Covid is killing the deals! $100? come on best buy! I'll wait and see if the cheapest MacBook goes on sale before my daughter "hopefully" leaves for college. Ugh tired of waiting.
That's still an air in the link right? Best buy is showing the i3 as 10th gen, I thought all i3 air was 8th gen? Nvm, confusing lowest priced pro with air.

There hasn't been a 649 dollar MacBook for like 5 years lol

up until Apple announced the phasing out of Intel processors
a 2-3 year lifespan, it's the most palpable macbook option.
I assume you meant palatable and not palpable.
Apple has not announced the phasing out of Intel, considering Cook already mentioned there are still Intel-based computers coming out in the future. Plus, a projected 2-3 years of updates is just blind speculation on your part. Not to mention that it doesn't make the computer useless after that point anyways.

Autocorrect do what it do.
They did lay out their plan to transition to apple CPUs, it's starting this year. My dev kit for work should be arriving soon.
I'm not talking about updates, there is going to be an increasing amount of incompatibility with the new architecture over time as more apple cpu MacBooks ship. Application developers will stop investing time developing and optimizing for both platforms equally, the market for macs isn't too big and there's more to be gained for the cpu which can run iOS apps (or which can be developed for apple MacBook silicon with less time).

Nope, they'll match the offer but then drive the price of the mac up to apple's

if you only use imovie here and there it should be fine. Otherwise you could optionally go for the pro models.
Lol blame everything for covid
At $1149 for the i5 w/512 GB, if you need/want to be in the Apple ecosystem and can accept a 2-3 year lifespan, it's the most palpable macbook option.
It's difficult to rationalize (outside of a work/job need) spending 2k+ on any macbook at this point.
