Better than the HP Omen for $1050 with student discount?
HP omen is a 2060 with only 512 gb storage. I bought that one but if this Asus one was available at that price I wouldve gone with the Asus.
I personally would prefer a larger display. Still a good deal.
Seems like a decent price for the specs though I don't think its an insane deal (Max-Q sigh). screen refresh is ridiculous...possibly overkill (one of the smarter folks would know).
I am a huge G14 fan; its portability and power sipping nature make it an elegant travel companion if you find yourself on the move and wanting as much power as possible in as small a package as possible. The Ryzen Renoir offering smokes 10th gen Intel right now in synthetic benchmarks though in terms of gameplay impact, YMMV depending on the game since the GPU has varying levels of impact on FPS. But, the G14 has some limitations (e.g. 14" screen may be too small for those who will rely on the laptop as the primary screen on a regular basis). Further, it has some engineering choices that leave something to be desired (soldered RAM, dim key backlighting, no webcam)...but I'm a huge fan.
This looks like it's a much higher refresh rate screen which will matter for you competitive gamers (though I'm not sure how much brighter one is over the other, and not sure if 240hz is really discernible or overkill), and a better GPU (2070 Max-Q vs G14's 2060 Max-Q). G14 will have superior CPU, battery life, and portability.
If I were a student, I would favor the G14 for its phenomenal battery life, light weight portability and it's "good enough" for me graphical performance...and if you have CPU intensive programs from school, even better! But the bigger screen and GPU of the M15 are very compelling. I would say it's a preference issue.

Yeah I think I'm favoring the G14 for the battery and portability. Gaming wise on the travel I'll probably be playing like games such as rocket league so that shouldn't matter much. 🙌🙌 Cheers.
Depends on what you plan on using it for. I have the G14 with the 4900HS for similar pricing and it's a monster with multi-cord and runs head to head with the Intel on the single core.
There's a pretty big difference between the 2060MQ and 2070MQ, but the gap is less because of the difference in CPU power. It would have been lovely to have a G14 with the 2070MQ but I think heat would have been an issue.

It's 1TB. I have had the G14 for 3 weeks and picked up the Omen a couple days ago to compare. The Omen has some pros, but I can't get over the sharp edges that scrape your arms and hands constantly. The G14 I wish maybe had an IPS screen, but the matte is better with reflections. If you use it on your lap, the G14 runs cooler with proper configuration because the fans don't exhaust downwards as much. The Omen has a better keyboard and although strangely placed and insert key if you do a lot of actual work on the laptop. G14 speakers are amazing, Omen speakers suck and are tinny. Battery life is about equal. Omen is way more expandable if you need more disk space as it has a second nvme slot for expansion. Omen also has an SD slot and ethernet port while the G14 does not. I would roll with the Omen if you want a bigger display, are on a tighter budget and can handle the sharp corners and edges.
