Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.

Required items you'll need:

Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet

Optional add-ons to improve the experience

Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.

Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.

Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.

Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Thanks, picked one up.

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!

You have to pay for the Peloton app correct? My wife wants me to buy her one of these Peloton type bikes and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. The one review said the only bike that was "open source" allowing you to use any app was the Bowflex but this is half the price.

Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

The handlebar cannot be adjusted horizontally, only up and down, so that may be an issue. My fiance is 5'4" and it's fine for her when the seat is all the way forward.

This may be helpful in your decision making: https://echelonfit.zendesk.com/hc...NECT-BIKE- [zendesk.com]
The link is the same response that Echelon's customer support sent to me a few minutes ago.

I was looking for further insight from users. Your fiance's experience is good info. Thank you!

Was you able to do that online? Where do you see the serial number?
Serial number should be on a sticker on the lower right hand side of the bike. If that sticker isn't there, scan for the bike's bluetooth name (using your phone or tablet), which will be identical to the serial number ("ECH-......").

Do you have a recommendation for a good bottle holder attachment?
Here's a bag on Amazon that holds bottles and stuff:

I bought the same bag based on that one Youtube video. It's useful for many things, but I find it's not as easy to use for water bottles, as it hangs in front of the handlebars and getting the bottle in and out is a bit difficult, especially if you have a tablet resting on the handlebar itself. I now use it for other gear.

EDIT: I use the standard bottle holder that came with the bike and ordered the following bottles, which are the same size and seemingly shape as the ones that Echelon sells on their website, only substantially cheaper: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BC3M7ZK

FYI, I cobbled together all of what I considered useful info and added it to the Wiki page of this thread:

https://slickdeals.net/f/14430131-this-post-can-and-should-be-edited-by-users-like-you?p=141451841#edit141451841

Feel free to add additional info.

I'm personally super excited about this bike, and my girlfriend and I love it. She uses it in "offline" without any app, just to get some cycling in with her morning calls. I use it with the free trial of the Echelon app and have joined a couple of live classes so far. I also tried the scenic rides, but they seem super slow and boring laugh out loud

Had been looking at exercise bikes for the past two weeks; this thread helped out tremendously!
Purchased the Echelon Sport today and should have it delivered Monday.

I went ahead and took the plunge.

There was an additional $200 surcharge for shipping to Hawaii that gave me pause to consider this purchase. The final cost was more than twice as much as the bike that I had ordered from Amazon on Prime Day, but hopefully it will benefit us with a more rewarding experience.

Thanks all for your insightful comments and suggestions!

EDIT: Checking Walmart's Return Policy, this is subject to their 90-day return period. So, I can return it up until January 20. A little short of Amazon's January 31 return period, but not bad. Also, the refund policy includes shipping costs! (I was surprised at that.) So, I would get a full refund of my purchase price in case I returned it. I just need to remember to keep all of the original parts and packaging materials.

So you can have a friend add you to their peloton account and use the standalone app? It doesn't need to use the peloton bike? That is good to know. Great write up by the way

I believe with the digital subscription , you can only have one profile (the $13.99 one) - however with the $40 subscription (if you own a Peloton bike) you can have up to 3 simultaneous streams and unlimited profiles? Is this correct?

So I have discovered that getting the Echelon app on Fire TV , Fire Tablet, Windows Tablet (IE Surface GO) is difficult. I tried sideloading but failed.

If my bike is in front of a big screen TV, does it make sense if using free Echelon subscription to cast class to tv, and if using Peloton app , this is available on Fire TV and Chromecast TV, so I would have phone on rack of bike and Peloton app on TV . When doing classes, its not like people are watching TV at same time

There has been different info in this thread. Some people say it's 15 lbs, another person stated he called Echelon and they told him the Amazon variant was 15 lbs, but the Walmart version was 30+ lbs.

I don't think anyone has taken it apart to weigh the flywheel yet. So no one knows for sure.

But yet another person (somewhere in this thread) posted an informative article that explains that the weight of the wheel is not a good enough indicator for the quality of a spinning cycle.
I've posted this info multiple places with references:

The Echelon Sport and EX-Prime have only 7 KG flywheels.
