Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.

Required items you'll need:

Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet

Optional add-ons to improve the experience

Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.

Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.

Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.

Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Thanks, picked one up.

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!

You have to pay for the Peloton app correct? My wife wants me to buy her one of these Peloton type bikes and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. The one review said the only bike that was "open source" allowing you to use any app was the Bowflex but this is half the price.

Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

It's really not fair that this has free 2 day shipping while I bought mine from the last deal and it won't ship out until Nov 2.

So when I ordered mine yesterday, the estimated arrival was October 22. Now the Walmart listing says if I order now, it arrives by October 20.

So if I cancel yesterday's order and reorder today, it will arrive sooner?

I think I got this figured out - please correct me if have this wrong.

I can buy the Amazon Prime Echelon bike and then use the free app to get my speed/cadence/resistance and use a second device to follow along with the paid Peleton app.

OR

I could get a different bike and use a third party cadence device which would then hook in to the device running the Peleton App.

Do I have this right?
Not anymore, Peloton disable third party cadence sensors in their app as of this past month.

All signs point to yes, provided Walmart doesn't change the date on you after you place the order. Mine is still stuck on Nov 2 from when I ordered on the 11th.

According to that thread that blurb about removing the cadence control is now gone. Who knows if its coming back.

My partner is having back surgery next week and I'm worried that if I buy it too soon that the 6 month trial will start on the purchase date, but if I wait too long then this deal will disappear. Can anyone give me some feedback on the 6 month trial and when it starts?

Free trial starts when you enter to activate your subscription and not when you buy the bike..however not sure when the 6 month promo ends

When signing up for the free trial, it only said 90 days. But I was able to chat with an agent and they extended it to 180 days quickly. Agent said you can cancel at any time and keep access to the trial.

Make sure to select the $39.99 a month one to get access to live and on demand classes.

did you cancel the trial? just wondering if i could do that now and not be charged later. otherwise planning to set up an alarm one day before and cancelling then.

You can cancel right after you get the trial extension and you'll continue to have access to the service for 6 months.

Ordered mine on Monday, received today. Had to contact support to get the 6 month trial extension as others have indicated, but it was quick and easy. I set up my account first, then contacted support via chat. I was asked to provide proof of purchase (they accepted a pdf of the order email).

How hard should this thing be to pedal? I can maintain a 100 cadence at 31 with moderate effort. Can't get it to go to 32 unless I press the brake.
