Hey everyone, I bought this over a month ago with the colder weather coming, and I just hit my 100th ride this week so I've become pretty used to the system. I've posted this in similar threads to this and people have found it helpful, so here's my how-to Peloton guide that tells you what you need.
Required items you'll need:
To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process. Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with your ipad/android tablet. Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride". Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going. |
The Echelon Sport and EX-Prime have only 7 KG flywheels.

A good article explaining flywheel weight
https://groomandstyle.c The Keiser M3 plus only has an 8 lb flywheel, but its close to $2k. Its about how the bike is engineered. |
Not anymore, Peloton disable third party cadence sensors in their app as of this past month.

No. Use this chart. This was built by measuring the power output at different resistance levels. It's not a 1-1 conversion like the etsy chart leads you to believe.

Earlier in this thread, there was someone asking for suggestions where to store hand-weights on this bike. As I was researching this topic myself, I came across the following article which rips into the practice of using hand weights during cycling workouts. Thought I'd share it, as it made me reconsider using hand weights in conjunction with the bike:

I use the standard bottle holder that came with the bike and ordered the following bottles, which are the same size and seemingly shape as the ones that Echelon sells on their website, only substantially cheaper: https://smile.amazon.co

The handlebar cannot be adjusted horizontally, only up and down, so that may be an issue. My fiance is 5'4" and it's fine for her when the seat is all the way forward.

Required items you'll need:
Echelon bike [walmart.com]
Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet
Optional add-ons to improve the experience
Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.
Polar OH1+ heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.
Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.
Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.
Download HeartCast [apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.
Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

Don't forget Chase Freedom has Walmart as one of the 5% categories this quarter!
Personally I figure I will be watching the bike sit in the corner for six months then I will sell it on Craigslist but maybe I'm wrong.

No clip in shoes will work with this bike with the stock pedals, but you can swap out pedals for SPD or Deltas if you prefer. The stock pedals are flat with toe cages. I found an insert on eBay for SPDs (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exercise-Spinning-Bike-Pedals-SPD-Cleats-Clips-JD-304/323495771759?ssPageNa... that you can add onto the stock pedals.

Do you have a link for the 90 day trial. I got one of these about 6 weeks ago but I haven't used it since i put it together.
I signed up and I know that I had to enter the bike serial number when I did but I did not register for any trial memberships.
Anyway to get the 90 day or even 6 month trial membership?

I can buy the Amazon Prime Echelon bike and then use the free app to get my speed/cadence/resistance and use a second device to follow along with the paid Peleton app.
OR
I could get a different bike and use a third party cadence device which would then hook in to the device running the Peleton App.
Do I have this right?

Yes and no..the other bike may or may not have a way to see your resistance number..that in it self is important to alot of people so they can tune into what the instructors are saying during class. If it does and you get a cadence sensor then your good to go..

There wasn't really a link, just when I was creating the account. I think you can do it by adding your bike to the account (again) and then if you select the store and put in your serial it will let you know about the trial. At least that's how the Chat Rep tried to get my 6 month going...

the prime bikes however where straight legged in the back..
not sure why walmart had two different images, possibly a marketing error when they had two different bike designs.
